Defund police almost cost me my race because of an attack ad. Don\u2019t say socialism ever again,\u201d Virginia Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ericawerner\/status\/1324439295847968768\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reportedly said<\/a> in November, adding that the party needs \u201cto get back to basics\u201d and that \u201cif we run this race again we will get fucking torn apart again in 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin agreed, arguing that there are some <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/11\/11\/brand-weak-democrat-elissa-slotkin-problems-message\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">serious problems<\/a> with her party\u2019s messaging and branding.<\/p>\n<p>If Democrats themselves are criticizing their own party for being too anti-police, it is difficult to argue Republicans are \u201clying\u201d when they make the same criticism.<\/p>\n<h3>Are Republicans \u2018Abusing\u2019 The Filibuster?<\/h3>\n<p>Biden and Democrats on Capitol Hill have accused Republicans of \u201cabusing\u201d the filibuster and obstructing the passage of Democratic legislation for months, and Biden reiterated that point Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the audience asked Biden whether Republican voting reform measures justified abolishing the filibuster, to which Biden argued the filibuster should only be reformed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe abuse of the filibuster is pretty overwhelming,\u201d Biden said, adding that decades ago, \u201cif you were to filibuster, you had to stand on the floor and hold the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you had to take \u2014 there were significantly fewer filibusters in those days. In the middle of the civil rights movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden says he wants to return to forcing senators to physically hold the floor to perform.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"10.213740458015\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Don Lemon: \u201cWhy is protecting the filibuster, is that more important than protecting voting rights? Especially for people who fought and died for that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joe Biden: \u201cNo. It\u2019s not.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/K81OotmByj\">pic.twitter.com\/K81OotmByj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Townhall.com (@townhallcom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/townhallcom\/status\/1418011859609849858?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 22, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>filibusters.<\/p>\n<p>This line of argument is misleading, however, due to the fact that Republicans have no more \u201cabused\u201d the filibuster under Biden than Democrats \u201cabused\u201d it under former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout Trump\u2019s presidency, then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had to break 314 Democratic filibusters seeking to block Trump\u2019s nominees from being confirmed into their administration posts, the most by far of any president in history. In fact, nominees from all previous presidents combined faced just 244 roll coll votes to break through filibusters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/06\/08\/senate-record-breaking-gridlocktrump-303811\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Are Republican Voting Bills \u2018The Most Dangerous Threat\u2019 To American Democracy?\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Biden doubled down on his argument that Republican voting reform bills in state legislatures across the country constitute the greatest threat to American democracy in its history.<\/p>\n<p>He made the comments in the same discussion Lemon began over the filibuster, kicked off with Biden saying he stands by his past comments about Republican voting reform. He added that the laws are \u201cJim Crow on steroids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In reality, the Texas voting reform bill \u2014 the most recent of the Republican pieces of legislation \u2014 includes further protections for black and minority voters.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"6\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Such endless nonsense. The Texas bill would improve protections for black voters. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/k4U1cNaMYe\">https:\/\/t.co\/k4U1cNaMYe<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1SLryfL7bn\">pic.twitter.com\/1SLryfL7bn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Vince Coglianese (@VinceCoglianese) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VinceCoglianese\/status\/1418024256143831040?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 22, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A similar reform bill in Georgia faced many of the same misleading criticisms from Democrats, who argued it was \u201cJim Crow 2.0,\u201d but many of the Democrats\u2019 criticisms of the legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/31\/georgia-voting-bill-absentee-voting-id-requirement-food-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">were outright false,<\/a> such as the accusation that the bills withheld water from voters.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have painted Republican legislation containing voter identification laws as \u201cvoter suppression\u201d that specifically targets minorities, despite voter ID laws existing in more than half of U.S. states.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has a history of false statements regarding these Republican initiatives, arguing in late March that the Georgia bill would reduce the hours of early voting. The Washington Post gave the president four Pinocchios for the claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne could understand a flub in a news conference. But then this same claim popped up in an official presidential statement,\u201d Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/30\/biden-falsely-claims-new-georgia-law-ends-voting-hours-early\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote at the time<\/a>. \u201cNot a single expert we consulted who has studied the law understood why Biden made this claim, as this was the section of the law that expanded voting for many Georgians.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Biden Overblows Vaccine Effectiveness<\/h3>\n<p>When discussing the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccines, Biden overpromised on what exactly a vaccination does.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re vaccinated, you\u2019re not going to be hospitalized, you\u2019re not going to be in the ICU unit and you\u2019re not going to die,\u201d Biden began, going on to say regarding the new delta COVID variant that \u201cYou\u2019re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/22\/critics-mock-biden-cnn-town-hall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018It\u2019s Like His Mouth Is Falling Down The Stairs\u2019: Critics Mock Biden\u2019s CNN Town Hall)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>None of these claims are wholly true. Even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledge that vaccinated people still face some risk of COVID-19 infection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudies show that COVID-19 vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting COVID-19. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine will also help keep you from getting seriously ill even if you do get COVID-19,\u201d the CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/keythingstoknow.html?s_cid=10493:covid%2019%20vaccine:sem.ga:p:RG:GM:gen:PTN:FY21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">says on its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While vaccines are extremely effective in preventing Americans from contracting COVID-19, there have been occurrences of vaccinated people still contracting the virus and even rarer occurrences of vaccinated people suffering extreme cases.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s own White House has experienced several of these \u201cbreakout\u201d cases in which a vaccinated person contracts COVID-19. Such cases can be less severe than they might have been had the individual not been vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>The vaccines are also not a foolproof defense against the newer delta COVID variant, despite Biden\u2019s statement. While the vaccines are largely effective against the new variant, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/nicholasreimann\/2021\/07\/20\/johnson--johnson-vaccine-far-less-effective-against-delta-variant-study-suggests\/?sh=3e746f884299\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">early<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/world-news\/europe\/pfizer-vaccine-is-88-effective-against-delta-covid-variant-u-k-study-finds-1.10018272\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">data<\/a> shows that the delta variant is slightly more stubborn against certain vaccines.<\/p>\n<h3>Are Car Prices \u2018Kind Of\u2019 Back To Normal?<\/h3>\n<p>When an audience member asked Biden about growing<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/13\/department-of-labor-federal-reserve-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;inflation and prices for Americans<\/a>, Biden argued that prices for automobiles are \u201ckind of back to what it was before the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe good news is the economy is picking up significantly. It\u2019s rational when you think about it.&nbsp; The cost of an automobile bill, it\u2019s kind of back to what it was before the pandemic.&nbsp; We compare what the prices were for the last year in the pandemic, and they are up.&nbsp; They\u2019re up because, in fact, there was not much to call for,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/07\/22\/remarks-by-president-biden-in-a-cnn-town-hall-with-don-lemon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biden said<\/a> in his response.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, spiking auto prices have been a leading cause of inflation itself. The price of automobiles in June 2021 was 20% higher than in January 2020 and 19% higher than in June 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/07\/22\/politics\/fact-check-biden-cnn-town-hall-july\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Biden went on to make another misleading claim in his response to the inflation question, arguing that his administration has created more jobs in its first six months than any administration in history.<\/p>\n<p>While the economy and jobs market has been surging back, that is due to the slow end of the COVID-19 pandemic than Biden\u2019s policies themselves.
