Jimmy Fennell was and will always be our brother-in-law. I am 100% confident that Jimmy did not kill our sister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry, I know that [the Reed family doesn\u2019t] want to accept the fact that their loved one is a serial rapist and a murderer, but unfortunately that is who Rodney Reed is,\u201d Oliver stated. \u201cHe is a serial rapist and murderer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oliver also dismissed the defense team\u2019s argument that Reed had a secret affair with her 19-year-old sister before the murder. The defense team\u2019s evidence included grocery store coworkers saying they saw Stites speak to Reed in the store before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a small town and having worked in retail, we\u2019re friendly,\u201d Oliver said. \u201cWe might talk to people, so the fact that you saw some people talking in the store, I talk to a lot of people when I worked in retail \u2013 doesn\u2019t mean I was sleeping with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.0285714285714\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I STAND WITH RODNEY REED <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RAqd0f9LzK\">pic.twitter.com\/RAqd0f9LzK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KimKardashian\/status\/1416047168671133700?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Reed was convicted of the 1996 rape and murder of Stites due in large part to overwhelming DNA evidence. He was set to be executed by the state on November 20, 2019, before the execution was stayed.<\/p>\n<p>A black man who believes he is a victim of racial bias, Reed claims he did not murder Stites but was having a secret consensual sexual affair with the teen. When her fianc\u00e9 Jimmy Fennell, a white police officer, found out, he killed Stites, Reed\u2019s defense attorneys have theorized.<\/p>\n<p>When Reed was convicted, it was determined Stites was strangled to death by her own belt while on her way to work at a HEB grocery story in Bastrop, Texas, in April 1996. Evidence also determined that Stites, who was also vaginally raped, was anally raped while being strangled to death. DNA from semen found in the teen\u2019s vagina and anus matched that of Reed\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/celebrities-push-to-save-death-row-inmate-rodney-reed-but-what-does-the-evidence-say\">The Daily Wire<\/a> in 2019 outlined key evidence from the case, which can be viewed, below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reed denied knowing Ms. Stites to authorities before claiming he was having a secret affair with her.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know her, never met her, never talked to her, had no idea who she is,\u201d Reed told Sergeant David Board of Stites, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/434185765\/Rodney-Reed-Reporter-s-Record-Jury-Trial-Guilt-Innocense-Phase-May-4-1998\">court documents<\/a> show. \u201cThe only thing I know was what I saw on TV.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reed\u2019s defense team suggested during the trial that Reed first denied he knew Stites because of racial prejudice, suggesting it was good sense for a black man to deny any connection to a dead white woman.<\/p>\n<p>But according to the prosecution\u2019s opening statement, Reed denied knowing Stites to police \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/434185765\/Rodney-Reed-Reporter-s-Record-Jury-Trial-Guilt-Innocense-Phase-May-4-1998\"><em>after<\/em> the defendant knew he had been linked to semen<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reed\u2019s DNA was first matched up against the semen found in Stites\u2019s body after an intellectually disabled woman named Caroline Rivas admitted to her caseworker that Reed, whom she had been dating, anally raped her<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cReed began dating Caroline Rivas, an intellectually disabled woman,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/17\/17-1093\/45899\/20180507150103836_Reed%20BIO%20FINAL.pdf\">court documents<\/a> revealed. \u201cRivas\u2019s caseworker noticed bruises on Rivas\u2019s body and, when asked about them, Rivas admitted that Reed would hurt her if she would not have sex with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLater, Rivas\u2019s caseworker noticed that Rivas was walking oddly and sat down gingerly,\u201d the response to the Supreme Court cert. petition said. \u201cRivas admitted that Reed had, the prior evening, hit her, called her vulgar names, and anally raped her. &nbsp;The samples from Rivas\u2019s rape kit provided the link to Stites\u2019s murder.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reed has been connected to the rapes of five other females, including a 12-year-old girl.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/17\/17-1093\/45899\/20180507150103836_Reed%20BIO%20FINAL.pdf\">court documents<\/a>, the victim, only identified publicly as A.W., says she was blindfolded, gagged, beaten, and orally, vaginally, and anally raped while she was home alone. \u201cThe foreign DNA from A.W.\u2019s rape kit was compared to Reed; Reed was not excluded and only one in 5.5 billion people would have the same foreign DNA profile from A.W.\u2019s rape kit,\u201d the court doc outlined.<\/p>\n<p>As noted by Breitbart News\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brandondarby\/status\/1193054633276522496\">Brandon Darby<\/a>, Reed has not been exonerated from the rape of the 12-year-old and a number of other women, but such cases were likely not pursued because Reed was served with the death penalty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen someone gets a death penalty, the other cases are often not taken to court because of resources and not wanting to put other victims through trials once ultimate punishment already given. All of those cases are still there and have been the entire time,\u201d Darby explained.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy Eipper, whom Reed has two children with, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/17\/17-1093\/45899\/20180507150103836_Reed%20BIO%20FINAL.pdf\">claimed<\/a> he physically abused her, even when she was pregnant. He also raped her \u201call the time,\u201d including one time in front of their kids, according to Eipper.<\/p>\n<p>There was also&nbsp;Vivian Harbottle, whom Reed was said to have raped six months prior to the murder of Stites. \u201cWhen she pleaded for her life for the sake of her children, Reed laughed at her,\u201d court documents reveal. \u201cThe foreign DNA from Harbottle\u2019s rape kit was compared to Reed; he could not be excluded, and only one person in 5.5 billion would be expected to have the same foreign DNA profile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reed also allegedly attempted to rape 19-year-old Linda Schlueter after he convinced her to give him a ride home. \u201cReed led her to a remote area and then attacked her,\u201d documents outline. \u201cAfter a prolonged struggle, Schlueter asked Reed what he wanted and Reed responded, \u2018I want a blow job.\u2019 When Schlueter told Reed that \u2018you will have to kill me before you get anything,\u2019 Reed stated \u2018I guess I\u2019ll have to kill you then.\u2019 Before Schlueter could be raped, a car drove by and Reed fled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reed was acquitted of the rape of 19-year-old Connie York. Though he at first denied knowing York, he later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/17\/17-1093\/45899\/20180507150103836_Reed%20BIO%20FINAL.pdf\">claimed<\/a>, \u201cYeah, I had sex with her; she wanted it.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In 2015, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/70659d40-1bda-4ecf-9620-35ee056757e2.filesusr.com\/ugd\/235808_99b68a76d3144c4faac8375a404f376d.pdf\">supplemental trial court record<\/a> showed that it was confirmed that Reed\u2019s DNA was found inside Stites\u2019 rectum, despite Reed\u2019s attempts to claim otherwise, and her vagina, underwear, her breasts, and clothing, which was <em>more<\/em> than the jury knew at the time.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cIndeed, [the jury] knew that Reed\u2019s genetic profile was consistent with profiles developed from Stites\u2019s panties and the vaginal, rectal, and breast swabs taken from her body,\u201d the record stated. \u201cReed\u2019s DNA is now consistent with that found on Stites\u2019s pants and her back brace, which also include Stites\u2019s genetic profile; namely, there is a mixture of Stites\u2019s DNA and male DNA on Stites\u2019s pants and back brace from which Reed cannot be excluded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEssentially, Reed is now found on more pieces of evidence related to Stites\u2019s murder than ever before,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fennell, Stites\u2019 fianc\u00e9 at the time of her murder, was released from prison in 2018 after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/crime\/stacey-stites-fiance-released-from-prison-after-serving-10-year-sentence\/\">serving ten years<\/a> behind bars for his role in the kidnapping and alleged rape of a person in his custody as a police officer in 2007.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following Fennell\u2019s release, Stites\u2019 family, including sister Debra Oliver, defended Fennell from accusations concerning Stites.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess in a way, part of him died that day too, you know? His life has never been the same,\u201d Oliver told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/crime\/stacey-stites-fiance-released-from-prison-after-serving-10-year-sentence\/\">Kxan News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter she was found, he was heartbroken and I\u2019m the one who really sat with him a lot and held his hand,\u201d she added. \u201cHe is not the murderer in this case, he never was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStacy didn\u2019t know Rodney, not at any time were they having an affair,\u201d the sister continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe difference between Jimmy and Rodney, is Jimmy took responsibility for the bad decision he made and he served his time and he\u2019s paid his commitment to society,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019d love for people to leave him alone and let him move on with his life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A cousin of Stites, who\u2019s been estranged from the family, views Fennell as the killer, noting that Reed\u2019s DNA could have ended up in Stites\u2019 vagina and anus \u201cany other way.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In October, Arthur Snow, an inmate and one of leaders of the Aryan Brotherhood gang at the prison Fennell was serving time at, signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innocenceproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Signed-Affidavit-of-Arthur-Snow_Redacted_Higher-Res.pdf\">affidavit<\/a> claiming Fennell bragged to him about killing Stites after he found out about an apparent affair with Reed.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Snow admitted that Fennell sought him out for protection against other racially-aligned gangs in the prison, and agreed to give up a portion of his commissary for such protection. The two \u201cwere never really friends,\u201d but Fennell once approached Snow in 2010 and bragged that he had to \u201ckill\u201d his \u201cn*****-loving fianc\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The affidavit has been used by the Innocence Project to advocate for Reed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>According to reporting from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/11\/06\/us\/rodney-reed-death-row-texas.html\">The New York Times<\/a>, a former friend of the couple, Charles W. Fletcher, said \u201cFennell had complained that Ms. Stites was cheating on him.\u201d But&nbsp;&nbsp;the alleged affair between Reed and Stites was rejected by the jury and 16 other courts.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe question then is why was Reed\u2019s semen found in Stites\u2019s physically- and sexually-abused body? Reed unconvincingly claims a clandestine, consensual relationship, but that was rejected by the jury and every court to have considered it-without dissent (two state district-court judges, nine state appellate judges, one federal magistrate judge, one federal district-court judge, and three federal appellate judges),\u201d the trial court record said.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Innocence Project has pushed Jim Clampit, a former sheriff\u2019s deputy, claiming Fennell said, \u201cYou got what you deserved,\u201d while at Stites\u2019 funeral.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"css-exrw3m evys1bk0\">Robert M.
