CNN screenshot via Twitter<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The announcement coincided with Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/21\/nord-stream-2-joe-biden-mike-pompeo-germany-russia-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">joint statement<\/a> from the U.S. and Germany, pledging that they would respond to any Russian attempts to wield energy as a weapon moving forward, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/us-germany-deal-nord-stream-2-pipeline-draws-ire-lawmakers-both-countries-2021-07-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__text___3eVx1j Text__dark-grey___AS2I_p Text__regular___Bh17t- Text__large___1i0u1F Body__base___25kqPt Body__large_body___3g04wK ArticleBody__element___3UrnEs\" data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">\u201cThe United States and Germany are united in their determination to hold Russia to account for its aggression and malign activities by imposing costs via sanctions and other tools,\u201d the statement read. \u201cThis commitment is designed to ensure that Russia will not misuse any pipeline, including Nord Stream 2, to achieve aggressive political ends by using energy as a weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">The U.S.-Ukraine relationship has strained in recent years thanks to a streak of scandals involving both Biden\u2019s and former President Donald Trump\u2019s administrations. Both have faced accusations of corrupt dealings in the country, leading to Trump\u2019s first impeachment.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-4\">The Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/18\/biden-white-house-halted-military-aid-putin-ukraine-zelensky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">denied reports<\/a> in June that it had withheld roughly $100 million in military aide from Ukraine. Biden\u2019s National Security Council had supposedly ordered officials to put together the aid earlier this year when Russia was amassing troops on its border with Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/06\/18\/white-house-ukraine-military-lethal-weapons-495169\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Politico reported<\/a> at the time. White House press secretary Jen Psaki denied the reports entirely, calling them \u201cnonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that we have held back security assistance to Ukraine is nonsense.
