As KQED <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kqed.org\/news\/11881322\/can-democrats-immigration-reform-plan-succeed-through-budget-reconciliation\">reported<\/a> last week, \u201cAs part of their ambitious $3.5 trillion budget plan to support families and spur job growth, top Senate Democrats included an immigration reform provision that could potentially offer a pathway to citizenship to millions of undocumented immigrants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Tom Cotton <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomCottonAR\/status\/1415314928269922314\">tweeted<\/a> about the reports last week, saying, \u201cConservatives need to focus on a critical fight that hasn\u2019t gotten enough attention: the Democrats\u2019 effort to stuff amnesty into a reconciliation bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.370044052863\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8Conservatives need to focus on a critical fight that hasn\u2019t gotten enough attention: the Democrats&#8217; effort to stuff amnesty into a reconciliation bill. <\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s why this matters:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tom Cotton (@TomCottonAR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomCottonAR\/status\/1415314928269922314?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 14, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Fox News\u2019 \u201cHannity,\u201d Graham <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/lindsey-graham-threatens-to-deny-quorum-to-prevent-amnesty-for-immigrants-in-infrastructure-bill\">discussed<\/a> the issue of illegal immigration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIf you have policies that incentivize illegal immigration, you\u2019ll get more of it. If it\u2019s policies that deter illegal immigration, you\u2019ll get less. The dumbest idea in all of Washington would be to grant amnesty in an infrastructure bill without first securing the border,\u201d Graham said.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cYou would have an invasion beyond what you have today. If we legalized 100,000 people or a million people in the infrastructure bill, there would be a run on our border because everybody would get the message: They\u2019re legalizing people in America. Let\u2019s go and let\u2019s go now,\u201d he added.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cYou have to secure the border before you grant one person legal status. If you don\u2019t, you will lose control of America, of our sovereignty,\u201d Graham went on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIf they put amnesty into [a] $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill \u2014 that\u2019s got nothing to do with infrastructure, it\u2019s big government, higher taxes-\u2014 but if they put amnesty in that bill, I would try to deny them a quorum to pass that bill,\u201d he said.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cTo my Republican colleagues, what are we going to do if they load up the $3.5 trillion, really $5 trillion infrastructure bill with mail-in voting and with amnesty? What is our response? If you don\u2019t like my idea, come up with one of your own. If we don\u2019t fight back as hard as we can, they\u2019re destroying the Senate as I speak,\u201d he noted.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThey\u2019re going to lead to an illegal immigrant invasion like we\u2019ve never seen in the history of the country,\u201d Graham argued. \u201cSo my idea is do anything and everything possible to stop this before it happens. Let the Democrats know that if you put legalizing illegal immigrants in the reconciliation bill, then we as Republicans will use everything available to us, including denying your quorum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Tuesday, Representative Ashley Hinson (R-IA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=w9OsfC4Vc98\"><span class=\"s1\">spoke<\/span><\/a> about the potential moves by Democrats to put amnesty into a bill on Fox Business.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hinson said, \u201cI think it\u2019s very clear\u2026amnesty is not infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cInfrastructure is roads and bridges and locks and dams and ports. It\u2019s not allowing this surge across the border,\u201d she added.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe infrastructure bill, this spending package, is clearly not the place to be having the discussion about any immigration issue. We need to secure the border and focus on the real issue here which is infrastructure,\u201d Hinson continued, saying, \u201c\u2026This is sneaking a policy into what should be a bill that\u2019s focused on infrastructure spending.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Graham made similar statements about illegal immigration on Monday when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/graham-says-adding-amnesty-to-infrastructure-bill-could-be-dumbest-idea-in-history-of-the-senate-wh\"><span class=\"s1\">told<\/span><\/a> Fox News\u2019s Laura Ingraham, \u201cIf you give one person legal status there will be a run on our border like you have never seen before\u2026the dumbest idea in the history of the Senate, the history of the White House.
