Examples included \u201cculturally relevant pedagogy,\u201d \u201cinstitutional\/systemic racism,\u201d \u201canti-racism education,\u201d \u201canti-hate education,\u201d and more.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The district defined Critical Race Theory as an \u201cinterpretive framework\u201d that \u201cexamines the appearance of race and racism across dominant cultural modes of expression.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn adopting this approach, CRT scholars attempt to understand how victims of systemic racism are affected by cultural perceptions of race and how they are able to represent themselves to counter prejudice,\u201d the PowerPoint reads.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Under the \u201capplication\/example\u201d portion of the slide, educators were told that critical race theory is a helpful tool for analyzing issues such as \u201cschool funding, segregation, language policies, discipline policies, curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and accountability policies.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The district defined \u201cinstitutional\/systemic racism\u201d as an organization, system, or institution that maintains policies and procedures that \u201cproduce inequitable outcomes for people of color and advantages for white people.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Under the \u201capplication\u201d section, the PowerPoint insinuates that educators should teach students that racism is a public health emergency. The slide links to the American Public Health Association, an organization that claims that \u201cdeclaring racism [as] a public health crisis or emergency\u201d is \u201can important first step in the movement to advance racial equity and justice and must be followed by allocation of resources and strategic action.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the slide, some school systems have \u201csystemic racism\u201d akin to Jim Crow laws and apartheid in South Africa.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On July 6, educators were forced to read a Teaching Tolerance article called \u201cEnding Curriculum Violence.\u201d Teaching Tolerance is the education arm of the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center. The article claims that a lesson or curriculum plan can be racist, regardless of intent.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The article reads:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p><i><span>Curriculum violence is indeed detrimental, but it does not have to be deliberate or purposeful. The notion that a curriculum writer\u2019s or teacher\u2019s intention matters misses the point: Intentionality is not a prerequisite for harmful teaching. Intentionality is also not a prerequisite for racism. As I define it in my work, curriculum violence occurs when educators and curriculum writers have constructed a set of lessons that damage or otherwise adversely affect students intellectually and emotionally.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>The district also states that \u201cprogressive movements and organizations\u201d are helping to shape the way the school implements its curriculum.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>FCPS has been engaging in critical race theory-inspired training and consulting since the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement. The concerned parent organization Parents Defending Education (PDE) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/virginia-school-district-shells-out-nearly-50000-for-survey-crafted-by-race-consultants\"><span>uncovered<\/span><\/a><span> that FCPS spent $49,600 to conduct an \u201cAnti-Bias Community Engagement Policy\u201d survey. The survey was crafted by a New York City-based diversity, equity, and inclusion consulting firm called Leadership Academy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>PDE reported that the district also \u201csigned a four-year \u2018Notice of Award\u2019 on March 11 with the organization with a \u2018pricing schedule\u2019 of 21 items that could add up to a minimum of $702,700 of business and even into the millions of dollars.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fairfax County Public Schools did not respond to The Daily Wire\u2019s request for comment.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
