Kyle residents will be required to: Bring a photo ID. Bring a City of Kyle Utility bill. Be prepared to help unload at the drop site. A right wing site is about to use this tweet as evidence that I\u2019ve organized events that require ID. Never mind that: 1. I didn\u2019t organize this event. The City of Kyle did. We just shared, as we do. 2. The bill passed in the House, but the Senate GOP blocked the bill as it needed 60 votes to pass. Former Vice President Mike Pence <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/pence-national-review-heres-why-dems-for-the-people-act-is-dangerous\/\">pointed out<\/a> that if the bill passed, \u201cState and local election officials would be stripped of their ability to maintain the accuracy of voter rolls, barred from verifying voter eligibility, and voter ID would be banned from coast to coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>National Review reported on H.R. 1:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p><em>H.R. 1 bars states from checking with other states for duplicate registrations within six months of an election. It bars removing former voters from the rolls for failure to vote or to respond to mailings. \u2026 H.R. 1 bars anyone but an election official from challenging a voter\u2019s eligibility to vote on Election Day \u2014 thus insulating Democrat-run precincts from scrutiny. State voter-ID laws are banned, replaced simply by a sworn voter statement.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/voices\/2021\/04\/08\/voter-id-laws-and-racism-democrats-just-muddling-debate-column\/7113493002\/\">noted<\/a> in April, \u201cThis legislation&nbsp;sabotages&nbsp;state voter ID requirements by forcing states to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brennancenter.org\/our-work\/policy-solutions\/annotated-guide-people-act-2021\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\">allow anyone to vote, with or without an ID, if they sign<\/a>&nbsp;an unverifiable statement attesting to their eligibility.&nbsp;Plainly stated the bill would eliminate&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsl.org\/research\/elections-and-campaigns\/voter-id.aspx\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\">voter ID in 35 states<\/a>.\u201d&nbsp;Blackwell, who is black, added, \u201cIt never ceases to amaze me that Democrats believe African Americans don\u2019t have, and aren\u2019t capable of obtaining, an ID.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s Chris Cillizza <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/06\/25\/politics\/voter-id-election-law-voting-rights\/index.html\">pointed out<\/a> in late June, \u201cVoter ID has been one of the central fights between the two parties over the past decade or so. Republicans say it\u2019s a common sense measure to avoid voter fraud. Democrats say it\u2019s a not-so-subtle attempt to discourage minority voters to cast a ballot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ariel Edwards-Levy,&nbsp;the polling and election analytics editor at CNN, added,<em> \u201c<\/em>In an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/04\/30\/politics\/cnn-poll-voting-rights\/index.html\">April CNN pol<\/a>l, 64% of Americans said that requiring voters to provide photo identification before casting a ballot would make elections more fair. In a March&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ap-norc-poll-us-majority-back-easier-voter-registration-d4c6c40628aa4ddc56fbbd372d30dd04\">AP-NORC<\/a>&nbsp;poll, 72% of Americans said they favored requiring photo ID to vote, and in an April&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2021\/04\/22\/republicans-and-democrats-move-further-apart-in-views-of-voting-access\/\">Pew Research Center poll<\/a>, 76% were in favor.
