Nancy Mace of South Carolina and Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist of Florida introduced a bipartisan bill Tuesday to reform conservatorships like the one celebrity singer Britney Spears is in.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/e77991c4801\/2d2264a2-3edf-4692-80e9-bff63bb9cc4e.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bill<\/a> would grant those in a conservatorship the right to petition the court to \u201chave their private guardian or conservator replaced with a State guardian who is free from any financial conflict of interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spears\u2019 current conservator is her <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/19\/britney-spears-jamie-spears-sister-conservatorship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">father<\/a>, Jamie, who has controlled her career and finances since 2008, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/britney-spears-conservatorship-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBS News<\/a> reported. Bessemer Trust, a financial group that has served as a co-conservator, petitioned to remove itself from the conservatorship after Spears stated she wanted to leave the arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>Spears has pushed to remove her father from the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/15\/britney-spears-washington-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conservatorship<\/a>, with her previous attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, stating the singer \u201cstrongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary in the role,\u201d CBS News reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBritney Spears\u2019 conservatorship is a nightmare. If it can happen to her, it can happen to anyone,\u201d Mace said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/mace.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/reps-mace-crist-introduce-free-act-protect-rights-those-conservatorships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> released Tuesday. Mace in introducing legislation that would give persons under guardianship an escape hatch out of abusive guardianships, a caseworker to monitor for signs of abuse and advise them of their rights, and increased transparency because sunshine is the best medicine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A judge ruled Spears would be allowed to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/15\/britney-spears-judge-legal-represenation-conservatorship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hire her own lawyer<\/a>, after Ingham\u2019s resignation. \u201cNew with real representation today \u2026 I feel GRATITUDE and BLESSED !!!!
