Byron Donalds (R-FL) critiqued the cable news network\u2019s ideologically driven coverage after a high-profile showdown with \u201cNew Day\u201d host Brianna Keilar over his exclusion from the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Donalds, who is serving his first term in Congress, has yet to have his application to join the Democrat-dominated CBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-congressional-black-caucus-seems-to-be-refusing-membership-to-black-republican-byron-donalds\">approved<\/a>, seven months after taking office. In an interview last month, Keilar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/rep-byron-donalds-blasts-cnn-as-a-black-man-in-america-im-allowed-to-have-my-own-thoughts\">suggested<\/a> that Donalds should blame the delay, not on the CBC\u2019s liberal political orientation, but on his conservative views and support for former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you think your defense of [Trump] might be incongruent with the mission of the CBC?\u201d Keilar pressed Donalds. She interrupted his answer, saying accusatorially, \u201cYou defended him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, what the president said in the past has nothing to do with this discussion at all,\u201d&nbsp;Rep. Donalds said at the time. \u201cAs a black man in America, I\u2019m allowed to have my own thoughts on who I choose to support and who I choose not to support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is whether the ideology of somebody who is conservative is welcome in the Congressional Black Caucus,\u201d he continued during the June 10 interview. It\u2019s really that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"13.558912386707\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CNN patronizes Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ByronDonalds?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ByronDonalds<\/a>, a black GOP congressman, after he calls out the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheBlackCaucus?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheBlackCaucus<\/a> for denying him entry.<\/p>\n<p>Keilar:&nbsp;Your ideas are \u201cincongruous\u201d with their \u201cmission&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Donalds: &#8220;As a black man in America, I\u2019m allowed to have my own thoughts&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vN9j4KXpNh\">pic.twitter.com\/vN9j4KXpNh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tom Elliott (@tomselliott) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tomselliott\/status\/1402997408112406529?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 10, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rep. Donalds reflected on the interview during Turning Point USA\u2019s Student Action Summit over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrianna Keilar tried to prove a point that she knows more about what black voters want than I do, or frankly than anybody does,\u201d Donalds said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/byron-donalds-cnn-brianna-keilar\">according<\/a> to Fox News. \u201cOr that if you somehow supported Donald Trump \u2026 you aren\u2019t allowed to speak for black people and that\u2019s the reason why you\u2019re excluded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I\u2019m a conservative Republican, but I think in the black community, we have a wide range of political thought,\u201d said Rep. Donalds. \u201cThe CBC tends to be [dominated by] Democrat or liberal voices, and I want to bring change to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He attributed the success of the interview to the fact that \u201cI pushed back\u201d against Keilar\u2019s statements, and he said he would continue to expose CNN and MSNBC\u2019s bias.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t gonna allow her to set a narrative. I wasn\u2019t gonna allow her to interrupt me, trying to push in another point that she wanted to put in. I\u2019m not going to do that,\u201d the congressman said. \u201cIf CNN and MSNBC want to interview me, I\u2019m very cordial, very nice. But if you try to interrupt me to push in your agenda items, I\u2019m gonna stop you dead in your tracks, and we\u2019re going to get back to the business of the interview.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While CNN presents itself as \u201cthe most trusted name in news,\u201d the first 24-hour cable news network dependably hews to the Democratic Party line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people at CNN \u2014 they have an agenda. They have a political agenda,\u201d Donalds continued. \u201cLet\u2019s be very clear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s anchors \u201chave a political viewpoint. The political viewpoint moves forward on everything they report,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not just the anchors. It\u2019s the producers, and it\u2019s the people at the top of the organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Donalds said the left-of-center network has only itself, and its single-minded focus on former President Donald Trump, to blame for its low ratings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s plenty of things to be talking about, not to mention mismanagement the federal level of massive overspending and inflation going on, but they wanna do is talk about Trump,\u201d Donalds said. \u201cSo, they do it to themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nielsen ratings showed that for the two weeks following the Surfside condominium collapse \u2014 when CNN and MSNBC focused on covering breaking news from Florida, as well as devoting coverage to Britney Spears\u2019 conservatorship case \u2014 their ratings increased markedly. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/one-in-five-viewers-stopped-watching-cnns-top-hosts-last-week\">CNN experienced double-digit growth<\/a> in its audience over that time, followed by a rapid decline.<\/p>\n<p>That growth evaporated when they returned to their monochromatic, politically themed coverage. CNN lost one of every five of its prime time viewers during the week of July 5.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Day\u201d had its lowest ratings in almost seven years that week, attracting only 433,000 total viewers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not me. That\u2019s them,\u201d said Rep.
