As she drives off and finally breaks free from the crowd, she hits one male protester, identified as 22-year-old Max Bailey.<\/p>\n<p>According to her defense team, 9NEWS reported earlier this month, 37-year-old Watson was found not guilty to an assault charge. She was, however, found guilty of a misdemeanor reckless driving charge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident, which was caught on video, happened May 28, 2020 near the intersection off Colfax Avenue and Broadway,\u201d 9News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9news.com\/article\/news\/crime\/jury-deliberation-trial-woman-hit-protestor\/73-2be40833-91e0-432e-94a7-921163dd32a7\">reported<\/a> (see video below). \u201cVideo shows several people surrounding her SUV and eventually when she drives off, her car veering to the right, knocking a man to the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<div readability=\"76.835807467386\">\n<p>Ryan Brackley, an attorney for Watson, said his client was scared for her safety, according to 9News:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"7\">\n<p><em>Watson was apparently caught in a traffic jam because of a protest in Denver over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Watson\u2019s attorney said she was simply trying to get home when she was \u201cdiverted\u201d by protesters near the state capitol.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cShe was alone in her car with her dog when she was surrounded by people who began kicking and hitting her car and taunting and yelling at her,\u201d Brackley told the news station. \u201cWhile stopped, Mr. Max Bailey jumped up onto the hood of her car and her windshield was smashed in two places. She was fearful for her safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The man who crawled on the top of Watson\u2019s car claims he did so because he feared she was going \u201crun me over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason I was in front of the car was to make sure everyone was safe and to get this lady to stop from running over protesters,\u201d Bailey said. \u201cThe reason I got on top of the car was because she accelerated into me and I\u2019m not going to lie down and let somebody run over me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rioting and looting broke out in cities across the nation last year following the death of Floyd.
