Officials confirmed on Saturday that one person had tested positive for COVID-19 in the village where athletes and trainers are housed.<\/p>\n<p>The person\u2019s identity and vaccination status has not yet been disclosed, but they are currently under quarantine in their hotel room.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/UPDATES?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#UPDATES<\/a> Tokyo Olympics registers first Covid-19 case in Olympic Village six days before Games open<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That was the very first case in the Village that was reported during the screening test,&#8221; Masa Takaya, spokesman for Tokyo organising committee says <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1dR9FwHQ54\">pic.twitter.com\/1dR9FwHQ54<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 AFP News Agency (@AFP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AFP\/status\/1416245077878317059?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 17, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The current total of positive cases among Olympic and Paralympic related people is 15 as of Friday, which brings the confirmed case number up to 45 since July 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt goes without saying that all the concerned people were immediately isolated and this way they do not pose any risks to other participants or to the Japanese population,\u201d said Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Tokyo entered a state of emergency ahead of the games\u2019 official start in just six days.<\/p>\n<h4>MORE NEWS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/facebook-biden-accusations-a-scapegoat-for-vaccine-failures\/\">Facebook: Biden Accusations A \u2018Scapegoat\u2019 For Vaccine Failures<\/a><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A woman sits on a bench across from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Village in Tokyo on July 18, 2021, ahead of the Olympic Games which begin on July 23.
