The law, the U.S. Energy Policy Act, also established minimum efficiency standards for other household water fixtures, such as faucets.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But in 2010, Steven Chu, the Obama administration\u2019s self-described energy efficiency \u201czealot,\u201d started pursuing an interpretation of the law stipulating that multiple nozzles counted as one showerhead. As such, the Obama administration\u2019s eventual interpretation&nbsp; made it so that the water coming out of each nozzle could not add up to more than 2.5 gallons per minute in total.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This interpretation of the law was later questioned by Trump, whose own Department of Energy determined late last year that, when a single shower has multiple nozzles installed, each nozzle could be allowed to spray up to 2.5 gallons of water per minute and remain in compliance.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During remarks at the White House last summer, Trump took aim at the Obama administration\u2019s interpretation of the shower rule, and also questioned the overall efficacy of the policy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYou take a shower, the water doesn\u2019t come out,\u201d said Trump. \u201cYou wash your hands, the water doesn\u2019t come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer, or you take a shower longer? Because my hair \u2014 I don\u2019t know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey take a shower and water comes dripping out,\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KgD7J36HV-Q\">said<\/a> in 2019, in separate comments about water efficiency standards. \u201cJust dripping out, very quietly dripping out. People are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times, as oppose to once, they end up using more water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Trump\u2019s shower policy finally took affect in December. But now, in the latest stage of the decade-long back-and-forth, President Joe Biden\u2019s administration will revert back to the Obama-era interpretation.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Department of Energy, in a statement to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-showerhead-rule-reversed-biden-6b6dc448e974a948cdcad3d43bfccbe3\"><span>Associated Press<\/span><\/a><span>, lauded the shower-head regulation as a \u201ccommon sense proposal,\u201d particularly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/droughtmonitor.unl.edu\/CurrentMap\/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?West\"><span>amidst droughts<\/span><\/a><span>, which are affecting many areas on the West Coast of the United States.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs many parts of America experience historic droughts, this common sense proposal means consumers can purchase showerheads that conserve water and save them money on their utility bills,\u201d said Kelly Speakes-Backman, acting assistant secretary for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/biden-says-its-time-to-reverse-trumps-low-flow-shower-rule-especially-as-drought-grips-west-11626461570\"><span>Market Watch<\/span><\/a><span>, the Department of Energy has suggested that the latest interpretation of the law won\u2019t have a significant effect on the showerhead market, because few manufacturers have actually made changes based on the Trump policy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
