CNN acknowledged that \u201cLittle new evidence has emerged to move the needle in one direction or another,\u201d but that because \u201ctop Biden officials\u201d are open to the theory, it\u2019s newsworthy.<\/p>\n<p>This, of course, was a very different take last year when Trump and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) were open to the idea. Back then, Cotton was \u201cfact checked\u201d by people who had no first-hand knowledge of where the virus came from, but who insisted China must be telling the truth that the coronavirus originated in a wet market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrent intelligence reinforces the belief that the virus most likely originated naturally, from animal-human contact and was not deliberately engineered, the sources said. But that does not preclude the possibility that the virus was the result of an accidental leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where coronavirus research was being conducted on bats \u2014 although many scientists familiar with the research say such a leak is unlikely,\u201d CNN reported.<\/p>\n<p>Though previously thought unlikely, the Biden administration now thinks the lab-leak theory is as credible as the natural origins explanation, yet they\u2019re not being treated as conspiracy theory morons.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/556418-washington-post-issues-correction-on-2020-report-on-tom-cotton-lab-leak-theory\">changed its headline<\/a> regarding Cotton\u2019s questions regarding the origins of the coronavirus. The original headline stated that \u201cTom Cotton keeps repeating a coronavirus conspiracy theory that was already debunked.\u201d In early June, the headline was changed to \u201cTom Cotton keeps repeating a coronavirus fringe theory that scientists have disputed.\u201d The article was also updated with a \u201ccorrection\u201d that reads:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p><em>Earlier versions of this story and its headline inaccurately characterized comments by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) regarding the origins of the coronavirus. The term \u2018debunked\u2019 and The Post\u2019s use of \u2018conspiracy theory\u2019 have been removed because, then as now, there was no determination about the origins of the virus.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/media-claims-tom-cotton-coronavirus-claims-debunked-fail-to-debunk-what-he-actually-said\">reported<\/a>, the Post\u2019s original fact check claimed Cotton said something he didn\u2019t say. The fact check claimed Cotton was suggesting the coronavirus was manmade, something he didn\u2019t claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know where it originated, and we have to get to the bottom of that,\u201d Cotton said on Fox News\u2019 \u201cSunday Morning Futures.\u201d \u201cWe also know that just a few miles away from that food market is China\u2019s only biosafety level 4 super laboratory that researches human infectious diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, we don\u2019t have evidence that this disease originated there, but because of China\u2019s duplicity and dishonesty from the beginning, we need to at least ask the question to see what the evidence says,\u201d Cotton added. \u201cAnd China right now is not giving any evidence on that question at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet the Post and other media outlets decided to \u201cdebunk\u201d the claim that the coronavirus was manmade, something Cotton didn\u2019t claim.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire\u2019s Joseph Curl explained in June how the liberal media changed its mind on the lab leak theory once President Joe Biden was in office:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"32\">\n<p><em>ABC News\u2019 Jonathan Karl, whose own network ignored the story, said \u201ca lot of people have egg on their face\u201d for dismissing the COVID-19 lab leak theory simply because it came from Trump, saying not everything is false just because \u201cDonald Trump says them.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis was an idea that was first put forward by Mike Pompeo, secretary of state, [and] President Donald Trump. And look, some things may be true even if Donald Trump said them. Because Trump was saying so much else, it was just out of control. And because he was \u2014 you know \u2014 making a frankly racist appeal, talking about \u2018Kung Flu\u2019 and the&nbsp;China&nbsp;virus, he put forward this notion \u2026 and it was widely dismissed,\u201d Karl said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>New York Times reporter David Leonhardt last week said he thinks people \u201cleaped to dismiss\u201d the theory because it was being touted by Trump and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI think a lot of people on the political left and people in the media made this mistake and said \u2018Wow, if Tom Cotton is saying something, it can\u2019t be true,\u2019\u201d Leonhardt said on CNN. \u201cOr they assumed that. And that\u2019s not right.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If Trump said something, the media leapt to claim it was false.
