Lawmakers have now voted to cut funding to the WIV from all three U.S. government agencies that have sent money there in the past: the NIH, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/117\/bills\/hr4432\/BILLS-117hr4432rh.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Defense<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/01\/house-appropriations-committee-wuhan-institute-of-virology-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The amendment to block WIV funding was led by Republican Pennsylvania Rep. Guy Reschenthaler and passed with bipartisan support. The <a href=\"https:\/\/appropriations.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/appropriations-committee-approves-fiscal-year-2022-labor-health-and-human\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2022 budget<\/a> also blocks any funding for gain-of-function research in \u201cadversarial countries,\u201d which are defined as <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/23\/covid-19-wuhan-coronavirus-deleted-gene-sequences-jesse-bloom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China<\/a>, Russia, Iran and North Korea. That amendment was led by Republican Utah Rep. Chris Stewart (@RepChrisStewart) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepChrisStewart\/status\/1416021465535860741?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Proponents of the lab-leak theory have argued that gain-of-function research, which involves making pathogens more deadly, more infectious, or both, for the purpose of scientific discovery, resulted in COVID-19 being accidentally leaked from the WIV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShipping tax dollars to a CCP-run animal lab with military ties to supercharge coronaviruses in gain-of-function experiments is a recipe for disaster,\u201d said Anthony Bellotti, president of watchdog group White Coat Waste Project, which has advocated for ending funding to the WIV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving first exposed secretive taxpayer funding for the Wuhan animal lab last year, we applaud Democrat and Republican lawmakers for coming together to protect taxpayers and public health by defunding this dangerous animal lab where there\u2019s no transparency and accountability about how our money is spent,\u201d he added. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/29\/china-wuhan-brett-giroir-covid-19-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Lack Of Chinese Transparency\u2019 Was Ultimate \u2018Source Of Death\u2019 In Pandemic, Expert Tells House Republicans)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The appropriations bill also requests additional oversight on animal testing funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/15\/inspector-general-national-institutes-health-ecohealth-wuhan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the NIH<\/a> after WCW raised concern about <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/06\/nih-animal-testing-wuhan-white-coat-waste\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">harmful animal testing<\/a> happening in government-funded labs earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The bill will now face a vote from the full House of Representatives, followed by the Senate, before potentially being signed by President Joe Biden.
