Their views reflect the deep distrust of the American people: Only 16% of all U.S. citizens say they can believe what they see on television. About one in five Americans trusts newspapers, a Gallup poll <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/352316\/americans-confidence-major-institutions-dips.aspx\">released<\/a> on Wednesday found.<\/p>\n<p>Gallup tracks public confidence in \u201c14 core institutions\u201d every year. This year\u2019s results find that the American people\u2019s trust has declined nearly across the board since the waning days of the coronavirus global pandemic. Strong, bipartisan majorities of Americans trust the military (69%) and small businesses (70%). &nbsp;Americans generally express low confidence in Congress, big business, and the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n<p>But the two parties differ sharply on which other institutions deserve public support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepublicans have far more confidence than Democrats in the police and the church,\u201d reported Gallup.<\/p>\n<p>That contrast comes into stark view when it comes to the media. Only 6% of Republicans told pollsters they have \u201ca great deal\u201d or \u201cquite a lot\u201d of confidence in the news reported by broadcast media networks, while 25% of Democrats trust TV news \u2014 a 25% gap. Similarly, 8% of Republican or Republican-leaning voters trust newspapers, as compared to 35% of Democrats, a 27-point confidence gap.<\/p>\n<p>The Gallup poll follows another poll from Reuters last month that found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/americans-have-worlds-lowest-trust-in-media-survey\">Americans have less confidence in the media<\/a> than any other country of the 46 nations surveyed.<\/p>\n<p>The reason is not hard to discern: President Biden has received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/study-media-gives-biden-less-negative-coverage-than-any-president-on-record\">less negative coverage<\/a> than any president in 30 years, including fellow Democrats Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, according to a report from the Pew Research Center. Yet the press corps\u2019 coverage of President Donald Trump hovered around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/rich-noyes\/2019\/01\/15\/networks-trashed-trump-90-negative-spin-2018-did-it-matter\">90% negative<\/a> throughout his four years in office, according to the Media Research Center.<\/p>\n<p>The differences in reporting are evident even when it comes to something as mundane as the presidents\u2019 dessert choices. \u201cTrump gets 2 scoops of ice cream, everyone else gets 1,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/05\/11\/politics\/trump-time-magazine-ice-cream\/index.html\">reported<\/a> CNN in 2017. Apropos of nothing, CNN worked ice cream into news that the U.S. military had killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. \u201cPresident Trump dined on ice cream as news of the airstrike broke,\u201d CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNNPolitics\/status\/1213170673994084353\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.4662576687117\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">President Trump dined on ice cream as news of the airstrike broke <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iP5fbnSfDH\">https:\/\/t.co\/iP5fbnSfDH<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SmrqI6zN0Y\">pic.twitter.com\/SmrqI6zN0Y<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNNPolitics\/status\/1213170673994084353?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 3, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>An embarrassed CNN employee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/cnns-trump-ice-cream-lampooned-report-dessert\">told<\/a> Fox News, \u201cOur newsroom is so jaded and anti-Trump that it posted this tweet, which lacked any journalistic merit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet the legacy media have covered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-3-biggest-softballs-the-media-asked-the-biden-administration-this-week\">Joe Biden\u2019s love affair with ice cream<\/a> with as much affection as the president has for the sweet confection. They have never presented Biden\u2019s sweet tooth as anything other than utterly charming and relatable. Phil Mattingly \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/TRANSCRIPTS\/2107\/03\/cnr.08.html\">reported<\/a>\u201d that \u201cthe president made an unscheduled stop for a very crucial double scoop of vanilla chocolate chip ice cream in a \u2014 sorry, chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone.\u201d (He did not note that everyone else got one scoop.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are the things the White House appreciates that people report on,\u201d Mattingly noted.<\/p>\n<p>The American people would place greater trust in the media if they devoted more time to covering the <em>viewers<\/em>\u2019 priorities, such as surging crime, rising inflation, an uncontrolled border with Mexico, and unresponsive public school bureaucracies.<\/p>\n<p>The media\u2019s sycophantic coverage of the Biden administration has even created hesitancy about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. \u201cI don\u2019t doubt there\u2019s some real f**kery with reporting adverse vax reactions,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimJDillon\/status\/1415793477988782082\">tweeted<\/a> comic podcaster Tim Dillon. \u201cI don\u2019t trust media at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.5652173913043\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I don\u2019t doubt there\u2019s some real fuckery with reporting adverse vax reactions.
