Ken Buck and Lance Gooden announced Friday the launch of the Freedom from Big Tech Caucus, a group of House Republicans working towards reining in major tech companies.<\/p>\n<p>The caucus will focus on addressing anticompetitive and monopolistic practices by major tech companies, political censorship, and Big Tech\u2019s relationship with China, Buck and Gooden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepKenBuck\/status\/1416010465923194881\"><u>announced<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in a statement. The caucus will also include Reps. Madison Cawthorn, Burgess Owens, and Paul Gosar, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBig Tech has abused its market power for decades, and Congress must act to hold these companies accountable and preserve the free market, promote competition and innovation, protect the freedom of speech, and foster a thriving digital economy,\u201d Buck said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers argued that major tech companies\u2019 market power allowed them to stifle competition and censor speech, negatively affecting consumers and benefiting China. He has also been critical of Big Tech\u2019s relationship with China, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/20\/buck-apple-reconsider-position-pawn-china-malfeasance\/\"><u>calling<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on Apple to separate itself from the Chinese state\u2019s practice of forced labor.<\/p>\n<p>Major tech companies have faced a number of antitrust <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/15\/amazon-antitrust-big-tech-department-of-justice-facebook-federal-trade-commission-google\/\"><u>legal challenges<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;this past year, with two complaints against Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/28\/judge-dismisses-ftc-anti-trust-complaint-against-facebook\/\"><u>dismissed<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in June, and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/16\/four-states-bipartisan-antitrust-lawsuit-google-ken-paxton\/\"><u>Google<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;the defendant in four antitrust lawsuits. A <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/08\/states-antitrust-lawsuit-google-play-store\/\"><u>complaint<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;filed by 36 state attorneys general last week challenged Google over its alleged monopoly in the Android app market.<\/p>\n<p>The companies also face pressure from enforcement agencies, with vocal Big Tech critic <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/15\/senate-confirms-lina-khan-lead-ftc\/\"><u>Lina Khan<\/u><\/a> appointed to head the Federal Trade Commission in June.
