On Wednesday, a new report released from the Department of Justice suggested the FBI made serious errors in their investigation into former U.S. Gymnastics National Team doctor Larry Nassar.<\/p>\n<p>One of the victims, Olympic gold medalist McKayla Maroney, has said to have endured years of trauma and suicidal thoughts. \u201cShe was in such a bad state. Her mother was afraid if she\u2019d go into her room one day, she\u2019d find her dead and that\u2019s what she told the court in Michigan when he was sentenced on child pornography,\u201d said Maroney\u2019s attorney John Manly.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was the FBI\u2019s Indianapolis field office who received initial complaints about Nassar in 2015 from USA Gymnastics CEO Stephen D. Penny Jr. The Indianapolis office began their probe into the case, but did not formally document any of its forensic activity, including a telephone interview with one of the athletes.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">To all the survivors, I\u2019m sorry it\u2019s taken this long to get answers. No one should ever have gone through the horrors you experienced. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cecEMfYqYt\">https:\/\/t.co\/cecEMfYqYt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Dianne Feinstein (@SenFeinstein) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenFeinstein\/status\/1415427022827016192?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 14, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Officials concluded there was no connection to any of the alleged illegal activity in Indianapolis and was asked to transfer the case to another FBI agency. They reportedly informed USA Gymnastics that the case was moved to Los Angeles, however, it never was.<\/p>\n<p>Finally in 2016, Lansing Resident Agency opened its investigation leading to the arrest of Nassar later that year. Olympians Simone Biles and Aly Raisman were among other victims who pleaded enough was enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that the abuse will end with us. I hope people can learn from what happened to us,\u201d said Raisman. \u201cThis should never ever happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One survivor claimed the FBI failed Nassar\u2019s victims by putting their careers and financial gain before the athletes, calling it a blow for survivors.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Nassar remains in prison where he was sentenced in 2018 to 175 years.
