The murder of George Floyd and the brutality experienced by so many people of color sparked an extraordinary movement across America. That summer, the NFL and its clubs committed $250 million over ten years to social justice causes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFL has not announced how much of its contributions to \u201csocial justice causes\u201d has gone to Black Lives Matter. In July 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/factcheck.thedispatch.com\/p\/is-the-nfl-donating-250-million-to\">The Dispatch<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"18.109375\">\n<p><em>An&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/nfl-commits-250m-over-10-year-period-to-combat-systemic-racism\">article<\/a>&nbsp;on NFL\u2019s website said that before this latest pledge, the NFL had donated \u201c$44 million to its social justice programs\u201d which funded \u201c20 national social justice grant partners and made matching contributions to 350 local grassroots organizations identified by players and former players.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The article states that the NFL will work with players to find programs to support. While new partners have not yet been announced, leaving it possible that some of the $250 million will end up going to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blacklivesmatter.com\/about\/\">Black Lives Matter Foundation<\/a>&nbsp;or another BLM-affiliated organization, when asked if the whole of the fund would go to BLM, Brian McCarthy, the NFL\u2019s vice president for communications, told&nbsp;The Dispatch Fact Check:\u201cNo that\u2019s not accurate.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAverage audiences <a href=\"https:\/\/frontofficesports.com\/nfl-viewership-tv-tracker-week-17-2020-regular-season\/\">fell 8%<\/a> to 15.1 million viewers in 2020 as the league embraced social justice messaging on helmets, warm-up gear, fields, and stadiums \u2026 The NFL <a href=\"https:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2021\/03\/11\/nfl-revenue-drops-from-16-billion-to-12-billion-in-2020\/\">lost $4 billion<\/a> last year,\u201d Front Office Sports noted, adding, &nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2020\/07\/02\/report-nfl-to-play-black-national-anthem-before-season-openers\/\">Lift Every Voice and Sing<\/a>\u201d will be performed before the NFL Kickoff game between Tom Brady\u2019s Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dak Prescott\u2019s Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, Sept. 9.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/the-nfl-just-admitted-theyve-been-discriminating-against-black-players-for-years\/\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported in early June:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"17\">\n<p><em>The league that prides itself on being the most \u201cwoke\u201d in its alignment with social justice movements has just acknowledged allowing discrimination against its own players.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In the midst of a $1 billion settlement of past brain injury claims by former players, the NFL announced its intention to halt the use of so-called \u201crace-norming,\u201d a practice of adjusting test scores for race in which black players were assumed to have lower cognitive functioning than players of other races.
