The plaintiffs are represented by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR). <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/12\/joy-reid-texas-abortion-jennifer-rubin-roe-v-wade-taliban-texas\/\">(RELATED: \u2018This Is Talibanism\u2019: Media Melts Down Over Law Giving Americans Power To Sue Abortion Clinics, Doctors)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot on our watch,\u201d ACLU policy counsel and senior staff attorney Adriana Pi\u00f1on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/news\/reproductive-freedom\/a-new-texas-law-threatens-to-eliminate-abortion-access-were-suing-to-stop-it\/?initms_aff=nat&amp;initms_chan=soc&amp;utm_medium=soc&amp;initms=210714_tw&amp;utm_source=tw&amp;utm_campaign=&amp;utm_content=210714_reproductiverights&amp;ms_aff=nat&amp;ms_chan=soc&amp;ms=210714_tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said in a press release<\/a> of the Texas law. \u201cAnti-abortion politicians may think it can use Texans like pawns in their ideological and extremist fight. Joined by Whole Woman\u2019s Health (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WholeWomans?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@wholewomans<\/a>) and a broad coalition of abortion providers and others who assist patients in accessing abortion, we\u2019ve filed a lawsuit to block the state\u2019s radical new law banning abortion as early as six weeks. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zr5ocEG8xK\">pic.twitter.com\/zr5ocEG8xK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Center for Reproductive Rights (@ReproRights) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ReproRights\/status\/1414963028890636296?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 13, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Texas\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/TX\/bill\/SB8\/2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Heartbeat Act<\/a>, signed into law May 19, bans abortions after the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/14\/greg-abbott-roe-v-wade-texas\/\">unborn baby<\/a>\u2018s heartbeat can be detected (usually by about six weeks) and makes exceptions for medical emergencies but not in cases of rape or incest.<\/p>\n<p>The law gives private citizens both in and out of Texas the power to sue <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/09\/arkansas-governor-asa-hutchinson-abortion-ban-law-supreme-court-roe-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">abortion<\/a>&nbsp;clinics or individuals who help women obtain abortions,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2021\/05\/13\/texas-heartbeat-abortion-six-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to The Texas Tribune, making the law more difficult to challenge in court. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The abortion providers\u2019 lawsuit argued that any \u201cabusive partner, controlling parent, or disapproving neighbor\u201d could target abortion doctors in court. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/19\/texas-abbott-signs-heartbeat-act\/\">(RELATED: Texas Passes Abortion Ban Protecting \u2018Every Unborn Child With A Heartbeat\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s23rjr\">\u201cIt is unthinkable that anti-abortion extremists could be allowed to stand in the way of people accessing essential healthcare,\u201d Melaney A Linton, president of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2021\/jul\/14\/texas-abortion-ban-lawsuit-planned-parenthood\">said in a statement to The Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s23rjr\">\u201cWe\u2019ve never seen a law like this,\u201d CRR lead attorney Marc Hearron said during a Tuesday press call, according to the Guardian. \u201cThis is what Texas politicians wanted when they passed this law: to turn anti-abortion extremists into vigilantes with the power to police clinics, staff and their patient support systems.
