The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/842\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PRO Act<\/a> includes <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/24\/joe-biden-mark-mix-national-right-to-work-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">provisions<\/a> that make it easier for labor unions to organize private-sector workers and harder for employees to leave a union.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing the PRO Act does is protect the $1.6 billion that unions donate to support left wing organizations,\u201d Rep. Virginia Foxx, the ranking member of the House Education and Labor Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/09\/house-pro-union-protecting-the-right-to-organize-act-business-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> in March.<\/p>\n<p>Unions would receive about $20 billion per year in union dues, $9 billion more than they receive now, if the PRO Act is enacted, according to an Institute for the American Worker <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/07\/labor-unions-protecting-the-right-to-organize-act-joe-biden-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/labor-union-amazon-alabama-election-results-challenge-labor-board\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Labor Union That Failed To Organize Amazon Workers Declares Moral Victory, Promises To Challenge Election Results. Here\u2019s What Happens Next)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bill has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seiu.org\/2020\/02\/seiu-members-fight-for-15-and-a-union-activists-celebrate-passage-of-the-pro-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wide<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afscme.org\/blog\/the-pro-act-empowers-workers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">support<\/a> among unions, but has been <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/05\/business-worker-trades-groups-reintroduction-union-pro-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vigorously opposed<\/a> by business and right-to-work groups. Just 11% of U.S. workers were members of a union as of January compared to 20% about 40 years ago, according to Department of Labor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/union2.nr0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat this bill is about is giving union officials dramatic new powers over employees. There\u2019s nothing in this bill that deals with individual employee rights. Nothing,\u201d National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation President Mark Mix told the Daily Caller News Foundation in May.<\/p>\n<p>The House&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/09\/house-pro-union-protecting-the-right-to-organize-act-business-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed<\/a> the PRO Act as a standalone bill in March and President Joe Biden promptly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/03\/09\/statement-by-president-joe-biden-on-the-house-taking-up-the-pro-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vowed<\/a> to sign it if delivered to his desk. The bill has faced roadblocks in the Senate where it would need 60 votes to pass.<\/p>\n<p>However, if included in Democrats\u2019 reconciliation deal, the PRO Act could be enacted with just a simple majority in the Senate. Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/11\/joe-biden-signs-american-rescue-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed<\/a> the American Rescue Plan in March without any Republican support using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/up-front\/2021\/02\/05\/what-is-reconciliation-in-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reconciliation mechanism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the PRO Act, Sanders said Democrats\u2019 reconciliation deal would lower the minimum Medicare age, include child care funds, have climate change-related provisions, increase taxes on the wealthy and include several immigration priorities, according to Kapur.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
