The letter was written following a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/wisconsin-school-district-provides-sexually-explicit-books-to-third-graders-teaches-students-how-to-use-sex-apps\"><span>Daily Wire<\/span><\/a><span> report that uncovered Elmbrook School District\u2019s school-provided computers offered inappropriate sex content to students as young as eight years old.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cState law has long recognized that parents have a right \u2014 and often a duty \u2014 to supervise what their minor children are exposed to,\u201d Lennington wrote in a July 13 letter. \u201cSo, while material may be protected by the First Amendment, that does not mean that children have a right to see it or that a school district has a right to disseminate it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe fact that Elmbrook has apparently made these materials directly available to children without parental notification and a reasonable opportunity for parental control violates state law and parents\u2019 constitutional rights,\u201d Lennington continued.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The letter calls on the district to \u201cinvestigate and publicly identify all sexually explicit materials currently available to students\u201d and \u201cremove all sexually explicit materials that are available outside the district\u2019s official human growth and development instruction.\u201d WILL also insists that Superintendent Mark Hanson apologize to taxpayers, parents, and students for offering inappropriate material to children \u201cwho have been entrusted to Elmbrook\u2019s care.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSchool districts have an obligation to know if their library collections feature sexually explicit material available to young children,\u201d Lennington said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/will-law.org\/will-demands-elmbrook-schools-remove-sexually-explicit-books-accessible-to-children\/\"><span>press release<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cElmbrook needs to immediately address this content and make clear to District parents that they take this matter seriously.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Elmbrook\u2019s School Board responded directly to The Daily Wire\u2019s reporting with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elmbrookschools.org\/news-post\/~post\/district-response-to-dailywire-article-20210713\"><span>letter<\/span><\/a><span> from board President Scott Wheeler and Vice President Jean Lambert. Board leadership blamed the book selection process on outside \u201cprofessional review sources\u201d such as Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Book List, Library Journal, and School Library Journal (SLJ).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>SLJ has become increasingly left-wing and works with radical organizations such as The Conscious Kid, which is responsible for the research that led to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nonprofit-responsible-for-canceling-dr-seuss-teams-up-with-google\"><span>cancellation<\/span><\/a><span> of Dr. Seuss\u2019s books.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe promote, encourage, and support reading as a path to individual learning and a deeper understanding of the world, but we never assume every book is the right choice for every child or every family,\u201d Board leadership wrote.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wheeler and Lambert also said that the Board is considering a new process for how the district puts books in the school library.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe appreciate the questions and concerns that have been raised about library resources available to students, as these questions have prompted a better understanding of our current processes and some initial thoughts around potential process improvements,\u201d the Board letter concludes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/wisconsin-school-district-provides-sexually-explicit-books-to-third-graders-teaches-students-how-to-use-sex-apps\"><b>Wisconsin School District Provides Sexually Explicit Books To Third Graders, Teachers Students How To Use Sex Apps<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
