Vaccinations have nothing to do with politics. It\u2019s a public health issue. It doesn\u2019t matter who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">He went on, \u201cThe virus doesn\u2019t know whether you\u2019re a Democrat, a Republican, or an independent. For sure, we know that. And yet there is that divide of people wanting to get vaccinated and not wanting to get vaccinated, which is really unfortunate because it\u2019s losing lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Tapper quoted the former health secretary under President Obama, Kathleen Sebelius, who recently said, \u201cI\u2019m trying to restrain myself, but I\u2019ve kind of had it.\u201d As The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/07\/06\/us\/politics\/biden-vaccines.html\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> last week, she said that businesses and schools should be pushed to mandate the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cYou know, we\u2019re going to tiptoe around mandates,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s like, come on. I\u2019m kind of over that. I want to make sure that people I deal with don\u2019t have it so I don\u2019t transmit it to my granddaughter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Tapper went on to ask Fauci, \u201cYou know, people who are vaccinated have to wear masks on airplanes because airplanes don\u2019t want to mandate that you have to be vaccinated to fly. I know you have been very clear that the government isn\u2019t mandating vaccines, but do you think it\u2019s generally a good idea for businesses or schools to require vaccinations?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Fauci responded, \u201cI have been of this opinion, and I remain of that opinion, that I do believe, at the local level, Jake, there should be more mandates. There really should be. We\u2019re talking about a life-and-death situation. We have lost 600,000 Americans already, and we\u2019re still losing more people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThere have been four million deaths worldwide. This is serious business. So, I am in favor of that,\u201d he added, noting, \u201cOne of the things that will happen \u2014 and I think the hesitancy at the local level of doing mandates is because the vaccines have not been officially fully approved. But people need to understand that the amount of data right now that shows a high degree of effectiveness and a high degree of safety is more than we have ever seen with emergency use authorization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">He continued, \u201cSo these vaccines are as good as officially approved with all the I\u2019s dotted and the T\u2019s crossed. It hasn\u2019t been done yet because the FDA has to do certain things, but it\u2019s as good as done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cSo, people should really understand that. But they are waiting now until you get official approval before. And I think, when you do see the official approval, Jake, you are going to see a lot more mandates,\u201d he said.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">In May, Biden&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/05\/04\/fact-sheet-president-biden-to-announce-goal-to-administer-at-least-one-vaccine-shot-to-70-of-the-u-s-adult-population-by-july-4th\/\"><span class=\"s1\">announced<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;that he was setting a goal \u201cfor 70% of the U.S. adult population to have one vaccine shot and 160 million U.S. adults to be fully vaccinated by July 4,\u201d per a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/05\/04\/fact-sheet-president-biden-to-announce-goal-to-administer-at-least-one-vaccine-shot-to-70-of-the-u-s-adult-population-by-july-4th\/\"><span class=\"s1\">White House fact sheet.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The U.S. still hasn\u2019t met that goal with CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#vaccinations\"><span class=\"s1\">data<\/span><\/a> revealing that 67.7% of adults have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine and over 152 million Americans are fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
