England was hoping for its first major international championship since the 1966 World Cup, but once again fell short.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After extra time, Italy and England were tied 1-1, &nbsp;but Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukaya Saka \u2014 who are black \u2014 missed their penalty kicks for England. Rashford hit the post with his penalty kick, while Sancho and Saka had their kicks blocked by Italian goaltender Gianluigi Donnarumma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/englands-fa-condemns-racist-abuse-of-black-players-after-missed-penalty-kicks-in-euro-2020-final-013517982.html\">Yahoo Sports,<\/a> the three players were subjected to racial abuse online, including monkey emojis, slurs and taunts.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>We\u2019re disgusted that some of our squad \u2013 who have given everything for the shirt this summer \u2013 have been subjected to discriminatory abuse online after tonight\u2019s game,\u201d the English soccer team said in a tweet. \u201cWe stand with our players<\/span><span>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.5168539325843\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We\u2019re disgusted that some of our squad \u2013 who have given everything for the shirt this summer \u2013 have been subjected to discriminatory abuse online after tonight\u2019s game.<\/p>\n<p>We stand with our players \u2764\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1Ce48XRHEl\">https:\/\/t.co\/1Ce48XRHEl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 England (@England) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/England\/status\/1414390646169821186?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 12, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>England\u2019s soccer governing body \u2014 the FA \u2014 also released a statement condemning the racial abuse.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>The FA strongly condemns all forms of discrimination and is appalled by the online racism that has been aimed at some of our England players on social media,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team.
