Are Texas conservatives going to be spying on women of childbearing age and turning them in for the bounties?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Media figures and Democrats melted down Monday over a new Texas law that gives Americans the right to sue abortion clinics or individuals who help mothers obtain abortions in the state of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Texas\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/TX\/bill\/SB8\/2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Heartbeat Act<\/a>, signed into law May 19, bans abortions after the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/14\/greg-abbott-roe-v-wade-texas\/\">unborn baby<\/a>\u2018s heartbeat can be detected (usually by about six weeks). The law, which makes exceptions for medical emergencies but not in cases of rape or incest, gives private citizens both in and out of Texas the power to sue&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/09\/arkansas-governor-asa-hutchinson-abortion-ban-law-supreme-court-roe-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">abortion<\/a>&nbsp;clinics or individuals who help women obtain abortions,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2021\/05\/13\/texas-heartbeat-abortion-six-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to The Texas Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>This may make the law more difficult to challenge in court, the publication noted. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/19\/texas-abbott-signs-heartbeat-act\/\">(RELATED: Texas Passes Abortion Ban Protecting \u2018Every Unborn Child With A Heartbeat\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Washington Post writer Jennifer Rubin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/07\/12\/republicans-now-stand-lawlessness-disorder\/\">tore into the law<\/a> Monday, writing, \u201cConsider the potential for harassment, spying, extortion and other vengeful behavior directed toward women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law depends on what a woman\u2019s neighbors, associates and friends know about her reproductive health and are willing to tell the authorities to grab a $10,000 bounty,\u201d Rubin wrote. \u201cThe possibility of frivolous litigation is hard to quantify.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC\u2019s Joy Reid compared the new law to the Taliban and to the dystopian novel and television show, The Handmaid\u2019s Tale. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/09\/22\/media-catholic-people-of-praise-amy-coney-barrett-handmaids-tale\/?filter_by=popular7&amp;page=26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Media Outlets Link Catholic Group Associated With Amy Coney Barrett To \u2018The Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"7.669014084507\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I mean, what\u2019s next, Texas?
