The bill was announced last week and would commit Texas to automatically registering people to vote upon getting a driver\u2019s license. It would also extend the early voting period.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 61 was named the Barbara Jordan Fair Elections Act in honor of the first Black woman elected to the Texas state Senate. \u201cThe act respects Texans\u2019 ability to choose how they would cast their ballot by expanding the use of vote by mail and expanding the early voting period,\u201d said Sen.
