Steve Johnson (R-Wayland), who chairs the state\u2019s House Oversight Committee, that the results of the review should be available before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe received your June 10, 2021, request to provide a comprehensive study of reported and unreported deaths in long-term care facilities in Michigan. I am writing to notify you we intend to act upon your request,\u201d Ringler <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/staterepresentativestevejohnson\/photos\/a.486886624834707\/1644087629114595\/\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cWe will be working with various departments\u2019 databases to address your concerns, which will impact the timing of our work. A preliminary estimate of our completion is late-September to mid-October. We plan to report the results to you in a question and answer format; therefore, please contact us if you have additional questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter came in response to Johnson requesting in a letter that a \u201ccomprehensive study of reported and unreported deaths in long-term care facilities\u201d be completed after <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/michigan-nursing-homes-health-coronavirus-pandemic-business-b79e3b5f12c1bba7b45486964c54de67\">questions<\/a> arose about the accuracy of the data.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/gophouse.org\/posts\/rep-johnson-asks-auditor-general-to-review-mdhhs-nursing-home-death-data\">letter<\/a> added:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"17\">\n<p><em>In our recent House Oversight Committee hearing, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Director Hertel admitted that because not all types of facilities are required to report deaths, not all have done so. The number of long-term care facility deaths is likely higher than what is being reported.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Additionally, not all long-term care facilities are required to report their deaths to the state. This includes homes for the aged and adult foster care facilities as well as smaller (12 or less residents) facilities. As we emerge from the pandemic, it is crucial we have accurate data so we can properly assess the effectiveness of our COVID-19 response and be better prepared for future pandemics.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI am confident that the Auditor General will provide us with a more accurate picture of the deadly results of Gov,\u201d Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2021\/07\/07\/auditor-general-review-michigans-covid-related-nursing-home-death-data\/7888719002\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cWhitmer\u2019s decision to place COVID positive patients in long-term care facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Jim Runestad (R-White Lake) applauded the move by the auditor general in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.misenategop.com\/runestad-applauds-auditor-general-nursing-home-investigation\/\">statement<\/a>, saying that \u201cour most vulnerable nursing home residents were put in harm\u2019s way because of policies from this administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince our attorney general refuses to investigate, it\u2019s about time the auditor general get those real answers for grieving families,\u201d he added. \u201cI welcome this investigation and the chance to shine some light on this entire tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michigan\u2019s Department of Health and Human Services said they \u201cfollowed the best data and science from the CDC to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect Michiganders, including vulnerable residents in long-term-care facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The approval rating of Michigan Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer has fallen significantly over the last several months from 58% in February to 50% <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2021\/06\/07\/whitmers-approval-rating-drops-after-controversies-poll-finds\/7590479002\/\">last month<\/a> and all the way down to 48% <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/07\/09\/poll-gretchen-whitmer-approval-falls-48\/\">this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
