Happens bit by bit. Quietly and subtly. And you will barely notice it. You can keep them from disco. Warn about San Francisco. Make \u2019em wear pleated pants. We don\u2019t care. We\u2019ll convert your children. We\u2019ll make them tolerant and fair,\u201d the lyrics include.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019ll convert your children. Someone\u2019s gotta teach them not to hate. We\u2019re coming for them. We\u2019re coming for your children. We\u2019re coming for them. We\u2019re coming for them. We\u2019re coming for your children,\u201d the song adds later. \u201cYour children will care about fairness and justice for others. Your children will work to convert all their sisters and brothers. Then soon we\u2019re almost certain, your kids will start converting you!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe gay agenda is coming home. The gay agenda is here! But you don\u2019t have to worry because there\u2019s nothing wrong with standing by our side.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Conservatives, understandably, were outraged by the song. In response, the choir claimed that the song was \u201ctongue-in-cheek.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe far-right conservative media found our \u201cMessage\u2026\u201d video and have taken it as their cause,\u201d the choir announced in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SFGMC\/status\/1413216353981374465\/photo\/1\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cThis has all happened in the last 24 hours and it continues to pick up steam.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThey have taken the lyrics out of context to support a narrative that suits their intolerant and hateful needs,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cIt is obvious the tongue-in-cheek humor is lost on many.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now, as a British person living in the United States, I am unfortunately familiar with sarcasm, irony, and parody landing like a brick. But this statement does raise an important question: was this actually tongue-in-cheek?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The answer is, of course, no. And that is the point. It\u2019s one thing to use parody to poke fun. It is entirely another to hide behind parody to push the same narrative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In this very statement, the choir admitted that their intent <\/span><i><span>is<\/span><\/i><span> to \u201cconvert your children.\u201d Not to homosexuality, of course, but into advocates of their broader ideology.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAfter decades of children being indoctrinated and taught intolerance for anyone who is \u2018other,\u2019 from using the Bible as a weapon to reparative therapy, it\u2019s our turn,\u201d the statement reads. \u201cWe have dedicated ourselves to being role models, teaching, and spreading the message of love, tolerance and celebration through our music\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Of course, this statement is entirely intolerant. Forced tolerance is <\/span><i><span>not<\/span><\/i><span> tolerance, and neither is viewing religious Americans who hold different views as guilty of \u201cweaponizing\u201d their religious text.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If I sarcastically say, \u201cI am a Leftist,\u201d that\u2019s tongue-in-cheek because I am not.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If I say \u201cI am a conservative\u201d in a sarcastic tone, that\u2019s not tongue-in-cheek, because the underlying message is an accurate portrayal of my position.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In this case, they\u2019re simply coming up with a retrospective shield in order to blindly reject criticism.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>That\u2019s not \u201ctongue-in-cheek,\u201d fellas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
