The business groups said the order is an example of big government attempting to exert control over the free market via onerous rules and regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis executive order amounts to a bizarre declaration against American businesses, from the largest to the smallest,\u201d Small Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) Council Chief Economist Raymond Keating said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/sbecouncil.org\/2021\/07\/09\/biden-eo-will-greatly-harm-competition-and-economic-vibrancy-not-promote-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to understand why a White House would go down such a path, especially as the economy is digging out from the COVID-19 disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt certainly is not based on economics,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>Keating and SBE Council President Karen Kerrigan said the order resurrects several bad ideas centered around the notion that big government can solve competition issues. The order would inflict unnecessary burdens on small business and fails to recognize that big businesses are often key partners for entrepreneurs, they said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/01\/worker-shortage-labor-chamber-of-commerce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Operation Warp Speed For Jobs\u2019: Worker Shortage Is Getting Worse, US Chamber Says)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/09\/joe-biden-executive-order-big-tech-antitrust-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> that Biden would sign an executive order packed with 72 initiatives promoting competition in the U.S. economy. The action allows workers to more easily change jobs, enables the the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission to retroactively challenge mergers, introduces new regulations that will curb Big Tech companies\u2019 power and allows the import of cheaper prescription drugs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe heart of American capitalism is a simple idea: open and fair competition,\u201d Biden said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1C_Bl1T9A9o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">remarks<\/a> delivered before he signed the order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what we\u2019ve seen over the past few decades is less competition and more concentration that holds our economy back,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen it in Big Agricultural, in Big Tech, in Big Pharma, the list goes on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s role is to focus on the interests of American consumers, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/NhKP0nUWmFI?t=5091\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> in response to a question on negative criticism the order has received. (Saul Loeb\/Pool\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s Executive Order is built on the flawed belief that our economy is over concentrated, stagnant and fails to generate private investment needed to spur innovation,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/15\/chamber-of-commerce-microsoft-target-salesforce-for-the-people-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chamber of Commerce<\/a> Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer Neil Bradley said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/press-release\/us-chamber-believes-executive-order-competition-fails-advocate-market-based\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chamber is a strong advocate for market-based competition, not a government-planned economy,\u201d he added. \u201cThis Executive Order smacks of a \u2018government knows best\u2019 approach to managing the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bradley said the order politicizes antitrust enforcement and includes legally questionable rulemaking. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/05\/joe-biden-wharton-school-of-business-white-house-american-families-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Biden\u2019s Families Plan Would Cause Negative Economic Growth, Analysis Shows)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>JCN, a national small business advocacy group, noted that there were several provisions in Biden\u2019s order that would benefit small business, but said those regulations should be enacted by Congress. Many of the initiatives will meddle in the free market and could lead to increased consumer prices across many sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden\u2019s executive order is a grab-bag of political priorities that will have mixed results,\u201d JCN President Alfredo Ortiz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jobcreatorsnetwork.com\/press_releases\/job-creators-network-reacts-to-biden-executive-order-on-promoting-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>. \u201cThe pro-competition provisions announced in today\u2019s executive order shouldn\u2019t distract from Biden\u2019s far larger efforts to crush small businesses under the weight of dramatic new taxes and labor regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NAM, which represents manufacturers in every state, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nam.org\/manufacturers-on-biden-eo-some-actions-are-solutions-in-search-of-a-problem-that-doesnt-exist-14545\/?stream=series-press-releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> the order includes solutions to problems that don\u2019t exist.
