We get superheroes and poorly done superheroes,\u201d he said. \u201cThere really isn\u2019t anything else at the mainstream companies. It\u2019s superheroes, superheroes, superheroes. And they are all avatars for the writers\u2019 political agenda. And they\u2019re kind of tiresome. They\u2019re not particularly well drawn. They\u2019re not particularly well-realized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dixon then asked, \u201cWhy would you want to read this crap if you had a choice of reading a genre that you prefer be it horror, or mystery, or espionage, or golf? When there\u2019s only one flavor in American comics, of course Japanese comics are going to win the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the past, Dixon has made it clear that he avoids pushing ideological agendas in his writing. \u201cI don\u2019t put personal politics in my work,\u201d he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/article\/20083-chris-dixon-clinton-cash-liberal-comic-books-conservatives-sales-punisher\">Inverse<\/a> in 2016, pointing to an anti-gun Batman storyline he wrote despite the fact he\u2019s personally an NRA member. \u201cBut, back in 2000, there were a lot of political cliques going on in comics. Once your reputation is soiled for leaning to the right, it\u2019s hard to get it back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dixon, who has also worked on Marvel\u2019s \u201cPunisher,\u201d wrote an op-ed for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/dixon-and-rivoche-how-liberalism-became-kryptonite-for-superman-1402265792\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> in 2014 in which he foreshadowed the most overt politicizing the industry is experiencing today, like Captain America <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-comic-mini-series-reveals-newly-woke-captain-america-who-questions-the-american-dream\">renouncing<\/a> the American dream. At the time, Dixon warned that conservatives and free thinkers needed to \u201ctake back comics\u201d before the business fell to complete leftist domination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur fear is that today\u2019s young comic-book readers are being ill-served by a medium that often presents heroes as morally compromised or no different from the criminals they battle,\u201d he wrote with co-author Paul Rivoche. \u201cWith the rise of moral relativism, \u2018truth, justice and the American way\u2019 have lost their meaning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair then described a trend that has only grown since they published their essay. \u201cA new code, less explicit but far stronger, replaced the old: a code of political correctness and moral ambiguity,\u201d they said. \u201cIf you disagreed with mostly left-leaning editors, you stayed silent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
