Politicians are silent. And the head of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association, an indigenous Alberta lawyer echoed on Twitter, \u201cLet me be clear, I would help her burn it all down. And that would light our way forward. Burn it all down. Doesn\u2019t literally mean burn it down. But just in case, I can also defend both civil and criminal,\u2019\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/vancouversun.com\/opinion\/columnists\/daphne-bramham-free-speech-or-hate-speech-civil-libertarian-lights-a-fire\">The Vancouver Sun<\/a> reported, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p><em>BCCLA president David Fai took five days before eventually tweeting the board\u2019s confidence that Walia\u2019s comments \u201cwere not meant to be taken literally but were a recognition that the system that created residential schools is so flawed that we need to \u2018burn it all down\u2019 and start over.\u201d \u2026 Former BCCLA president Craig Jones called Walia\u2019s statement \u201ca new height of stupidity for the Perrier-provocateur set.\u201d\u2026 Another former BCCLA president, John Russell, called Walia\u2019s remarks \u201cinflammatory and utterly irresponsible,\u201d and turned in his membership.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jenn Allan-Riley, the daughter of a residential school survivor, told a news&nbsp;conference on Monday, \u201cBurning down churches is not in solidarity with us Indigenous people. Whoever is doing this, you\u2019re going to wake up a very ugly, evil spirit in this country,\u201d CBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/residential-school-survivors-end-church-arson-1.6090511?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar&amp;fbclid=IwAR1INDuxCaVt04lKa-F_-82B89BwKq9gbYucyQSinlK0Gh3mRziPNIHRPt8\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Rebel News journalist Ezra Levant told Fox News\u2019s Tucker Carlson, &nbsp;\u201cI\u2019m reluctant to use the word \u2018Kristallnacht,\u2019 because we\u2019re not there yet, That was the \u2018Night of the Broken Glass\u2019 in pre-Holocaust Germany, where they smashed and burned and killed Jewish synagogues. It was a precursor to the Holocaust. \u2026 Obviously, we are not that far gone yet. But what do you call it when literally dozens of churches are being systemically vandalized, torched?\u201d as <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/dark-days-church-arsonists-plunging-canada-toward-kristallnacht-levels-of-evil-journalist-warns\/\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOften run by churches, the residential school program was a government-funded program in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that forced indigenous children into boarding schools to assimilate them to Canadian culture.&nbsp;Canadian churches and politicians have since apologized for the program,\u201d The Daily Wire noted.<\/p>\n<p>Levant fired, \u201cJustin Trudeau, who is normally the first and the wokest, waited a week before saying anything. And he literally said, \u2018That\u2019s not the way to go.\u2019 That was as tough as he got.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau issued a statement this week saying, \u201cIt is a shame and indeed it is something that will prevent people who will seek solace in times of grief from being able to visit their own places of worship when they\u2019ve been vandalized or burned.
