The president called them \u201cbetter trained, better equipped and more competent in terms of conducting war\u201d than the Taliban.<\/p>\n<p>The Taliban has been quickly taking over military outposts and districts across the region as the U.S. withdraws, sparking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/restricted\/?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.usatoday.com%2Fstory%2Fopinion%2F2021%2F07%2F05%2Fafghanistan-joe-biden-withdraw-war-afghans-aid%2F7817206002%2F\">major concerns<\/a> of the possible collapse. Biden pushed back on reports that the intelligence community has concluded the Afghan government will likely collapse, telling reporters this \u201cis not true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Afghan government and leadership has to come together. They clearly have the capacity to sustain the government in place,\u201d Biden said. \u201cThe question is, will they generate the kind of cohesion to do it. It is not a question of whether they have the capacity. They have the capacity. They have the forces. They have the equipment. The question is will they do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not send another generation of Americans to war in Afghanistan with no reasonable expectation of achieving a different outcome,\u201d Biden also said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/europe-business-lifestyle-b34e8480c8a0d80072fb2b4414914156\">report in<\/a> May detailed the struggle of the Afghan forces and highlighted the vast corruption present throughout its ranks. Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) national security analyst Anthony H. Cordesman previously told the Daily Caller that the region is partially corrupt because it\u2019s \u201cdependent on outside financing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe massive influx of U.S. dollars for assistance programs, construction and contractors, together with the deeply rooted and extensive narcotics trade, turbocharged corruption,\u201d former Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates detailed in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/06\/13\/opinion\/robert-gates-afghanistan-withdrawal.html?referringSource=articleShare\">opinion piece<\/a> published by The New York Times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">\u201cIt even extended to Afghan security forces: Promotions were for sale, officers stole troops\u2019 wages and weapons appeared on the black market. Of course, many Afghan soldiers fought courageously to protect their country from the Taliban. But for many other Afghan soldiers, there was simply little motivation,\u201d Gates added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">Biden announced the mission \u201cwill conclude on August 31,\u201d ahead of the former <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/13\/joe-biden-middle-east-afghanistan-troop-withdrawal-taliban-may-1-september-11\/\">Sept. 11<\/a> deadline for the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/06\/afghanistan-us-central-command-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">withdrawal<\/a>. The president\u2019s new deadline comes amid a faster-than-anticipated drawdown process.<strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/28\/afghanistan-joe-biden-withdrawal-september-11-taliban-hostilties\/%C2%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Taliban Takeover Of Critical Areas During Biden Withdrawal Suggests Grim Future For Afghanistan)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Biden further said he would shift his focus to COVID-19, the \u201c<span id=\"subtitle669\" class=\"subtitle selfragment\" data-id=\"669\" data-start=\"1200299\" data-end=\"1202234\">existential threats of<\/span> <span id=\"subtitle670\" class=\"subtitle\" data-id=\"670\" data-start=\"1202367\" data-end=\"1204169\">climate change\u201d&nbsp;<\/span>and competition from <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/08\/joe-biden-donald-trump-afghanistan-withdraw-china-power-vaccum\/\">China<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The drawdown has raised questions on how the thousands of Afghans who helped America will be evacuated and accepted into the U.S. Biden promised those individuals a home in America if they want it during his remarks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a home for you in the United States, if you so choose,\u201d Biden declared. \u201cAnd we will stand with you just as you stood with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president explained that 2,500 special immigrant visas have been approved since his inauguration, but \u201cfewer than half\u201d of the interpreters and translators \u201chave exercised their right to do that.\u201d He also noted that visas continue to be processed and briefly detailed how the administration is beginning to relocate individuals who decide to leave the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd those who have stood up for the operation through physically relocate [sic] thousands of Afghans and their families before the U.S. military mission concludes so that if they choose they can wait safely outside of Afghanistan while their U.S. Visas are being processed,\u201d Biden explained, reiterating previously reported information on evacuees being sent to other countries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The president, during a question and answer session with reporters, continued on to issue a clear opinion on the war, saying he \u201copposed permanently having American forces in Afghanistan.\u201d&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/02\/joe-biden-afghanistan-taliban-withdrawal-reporters-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/02\/joe-biden-afghanistan-taliban-withdrawal-reporters-questions\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1625858868021000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1KrSsTHrtAvJy4bK4GYyE4\">(RELATED:&nbsp;Joe Biden Refuses To Answer Further Questions About Afghanistan In Testy Exchange With Reporters)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo nation has ever unified Afghanistan,\u201d the president explained. \u201cNo nation. Empires have gone there and not done it. The focus we had, and I strongly supported it, and you may remember I physically went to Afghanistan. I was up in that pass where Osama bin Laden was allegedly escaped or out of harm\u2019s way. We went for two reasons. One, to bring Osama bin Laden to the \u2018gates of hell,\u2019 as I said at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second reason was to eliminate Al Qaeda\u2019s capacity to deal with more attacks on the United States from that territory,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe accomplished both of those objectives, period. That\u2019s what I believed from the beginning, why we should be \u2014 why we should have gone to Afghanistan. That job had been over for some time.
