Arizona\u2019s law requires in-person ballots cast on Election Day at the wrong precinct to be discarded. The law also limits ballot harvesting to family caregivers, election officials and mail carriers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArizona law generally makes it very easy to vote,\u201d Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the majority. \u201cOne strong and entirely legitimate state interest is the prevention of fraud. Fraud can affect the outcome of a close election, and fraudulent votes dilute the right of citizens to cast ballots that carry appropriate weight. Fraud can also undermine public confidence in the fairness of elections and the perceived legitimacy of the announced outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the high court has made a seemingly non-partisan ruling on election integrity, President Joe Biden was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/01\/joe-biden-condemns-supreme-court-arizona-voting-law-decision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quick to criticize<\/a> the decision as having done \u201csevere damage\u201d to the Voting Rights Act. Biden claimed the ruling upholds \u201ca significant race-based disparity in voting opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund Sherrilyn Ifill criticized the Supreme Court\u2019s decision, noting claims that there is \u201cfraud\u201d is a \u201crationale employed by state\u2019s to restrict voting.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"10.56\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">And then there\u2019s the crediting of the \u201cfraud\u201d rationale as a state interest, despite the overwhelming evidence \u2013 of which the Court must be well aware \u2013 that \u201cvoter fraud\u201d is a myth \u2013 a rationale employed by state\u2019s to restrict voting.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sherrilyn Ifill (@Sifill_LDF) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sifill_LDF\/status\/1410619400307318800?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 1, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>An increasing number of Democrats, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/25\/biden-republican-voter-integrity-initiatives-jim-crow-eagle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the president included<\/a>, have deemed attempts to safeguard elections as \u201cracist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ninth Court originally upheld the two provisions, finding that so-called ballot harvesting was actually needed in rural and remote parts of the state where people have limited access to cars and polling booths. The court ruled this piece of evidence did deny minorities the right to vote, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/07\/01\/998758022\/the-supreme-court-upheld-upholds-arizona-measures-that-restrict-voting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocracy is on the line,\u201d Biden added, calling for the \u201cFor The People Act\u201d to be pushed through. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/31\/burgess-owens-georgia-election-law-jim-crow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Rep. Burgess Owens Lived Through Jim Crow, Says It\u2019s \u2018Demeaning\u2019 To Compare Voter ID With Actual Racism)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But this wasn\u2019t the first time Democrats took aim at voting laws. Several prominent Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/26\/jim-crow-2-0-critics-georgia-bill-kemp-abrams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">labeled<\/a> Georgia\u2019s new election laws as \u201cracist.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/31\/georgia-voting-bill-absentee-voting-id-requirement-food-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new law<\/a> requires voters to provide identification when they apply for an absentee ballot and when they vote in person.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Georgia State Rep. Donna McLeod called the legislation \u201cJim Crow 2.0.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"8.8871951219512\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cJim Crow 2.0 is represented in that picture,\u201d Georgia state Rep. Brian Kemp as he signed a sweeping elections bill that will restrict voting access for many into law on Thursday. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zUKnlSJwS6\">https:\/\/t.co\/zUKnlSJwS6<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0yZiYg9ByR\">pic.twitter.com\/0yZiYg9ByR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CNN (@CNN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNN\/status\/1375415233288695808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 26, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams echoed that sentiment by also calling the efforts \u201cunconstitutional\u201d and \u201cnothing less than Jim Crow 2.0.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]hese blatantly unconstitutional efforts \u2026 are nothing less than Jim Crow 2.0.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.366037735849\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Stacey Abrams: \u201cNow, more than ever, Americans must demand federal action to protect voting rights as we continue to fight against these blatantly unconstitutional efforts that are nothing less than Jim Crow 2.0.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kylegriffin1\/status\/1375252410768195585?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 26, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Attorney General Merrick Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/25\/justice-department-georgia-lawsuit-election-law-merrick-garland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> the Department of Justice would sue Georgia over the voting laws, alleging the law was racially discriminatory. Despite the DOJ\u2019s claim, a 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/02\/13\/study-strict-voter-id-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">study<\/a> from the National Bureau of Economic Research found voter ID requirements do not amount to voter suppression.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the Democrats proposed the \u201cFor the People Act\u201d which they claimed would mitigate the \u201cracist voter suppression\u201d laws. The legislation claims to \u201cexpand voter rights\u201d by allowing for same-day and automatic voter registration as well as expanding voting by mail and early voting.<\/p>\n<p>But for a bill aimed at expanding \u201cvoter rights,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/04\/house-passed-hr-1-for-people-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">legislation<\/a> ends voter ID requirements and mandates states cannot require identification for obtaining an absentee ballot or casting a mail-in ballot. This provision would change the law in 36 states which require some form of identification at the polls.<\/p>\n<p>Ballot harvesting, a practice that allows a third party to collect ballots for voters, would be legalized. Harvesters could collect as many ballots as they want without limitations. This provision could be subject to change, however, given the Supreme Court\u2019s recent ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Another provision gives felons the right to vote.<\/p>\n<p>Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/20\/for-the-people-act-democratic-voting-reform-bill-easier-to-cheat-harder-vote-tim-scott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">criticized<\/a> the Democrat-led legislation.
