Unfortunately, Chris Cuomo\u2019s record says something much different.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What He\u2019s Saying Now<\/strong>: On the July 6 episode of \u201cCuomo Prime Time,\u201d Chris Cuomo joined his fellow CNN hosts in focusing on the six-month anniversary of the Capitol riot. Cuomo said that Republicans had downplayed the importance of the D.C. riot, in part, because they believe it pales in comparison to the BLM riots. Cuomo said on January 6 there were:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p><em>[a]round 140 officers assaulted, some very badly. This is the truth. Period! It is no less the truth because Black Lives Matter supporters committed acts of violence, too. Even if you want to believe that the media was okay with what they did \u2014 which sure as hell isn\u2019t true on this show \u2014 but even if you want to say they were, it doesn\u2019t change this.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Cuomo went on to label the D.C. riot the most consequential civil disturbance in U.S. history. \u201cWhat happened on January 6th has no equal in terms of what and who was targeted, and how,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>What should we make of Cuomo\u2019s assertion that his show somehow opposed the international series of rolling riots associated with BLM and Antifa, which included acts of arson, looting, assaulting police, and murder \u2014 riots that caused billions of dollars of property damage and left <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/oct\/31\/americans-killed-protests-political-unrest-acled\">dozens<\/a> of people dead?<\/p>\n<p><strong>What He Said Then<\/strong>: Chris Cuomo has repeatedly apologized for the rioters\u2019 tactics, including the use of violence, often citing their moral purity as a justifying or mitigating factor.<\/p>\n<p>On June 2, 2020, Cuomo said that \u201ctoo many see the protests as the problem. No, the problem is what forced your fellow citizens to take to the streets \u2014 persistent and poisonous inequities and injustice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then Cuomo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-cnns-chris-cuomo-protests-dont-have-to-be-polite\">dared<\/a> the critics of BLM-related violence, \u201cPlease, show me where it says protests are supposed to be polite and peaceful.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.3260869565217\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cShow me where it says that protests are supposed to be polite and peaceful?\u201d \u2013 Chris Cuomo, June 2 2020<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gIrIOHs2pj\">pic.twitter.com\/gIrIOHs2pj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattWalshBlog\/status\/1346989127905009670?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The First Amendment guarantees a robust right to free speech, including the right to hold mass rallies \u2014 and that right is explicitly predicated on the idea that those rallies must be peaceful. The Bill of Rights says, \u201cCongress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people <strong><em>peaceably<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.\u201d (Emphasis added.) There is no right to riot.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo and fellow CNN host Don Lemon made an abrupt reversal on the topic as the 2020 presidential election neared. He and Lemon spoke about the Kenosha, Wisconsin, riot last summer, noting that voter anger had built against these waves of lawlessness just 68 days before the election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rioting has to stop,\u201d Lemon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2020\/08\/26\/cnns_don_lemon_kenosha_hurting_democrats_in_polls_the_rioting_has_to_stop.html\">told<\/a> Cuomo on August 25. \u201cChris, as you know and I know, it\u2019s showing up in the polling. It\u2019s showing up in focus groups. It is the only thing right now that is sticking.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.242857142857\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CNN\u2019s Don Lemon says that the riots across the country have to stop because it might hurt the Democrats\u2019 chances in November:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s showing up in the polling. When former Trump official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/staff\/ken-cuccinelli\">Ken Cuccinelli<\/a> said this January 12 that riots had swept the nation for months, Cuomo objected that BLM\u2019s intentions had to be taken into consideration. \u201cOverturning the election is different than being pissed off about being shot by cops,\u201d Cuomo said. (CNN\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/transcripts.cnn.com\/TRANSCRIPTS\/2101\/12\/CPT.01.html\">official transcript<\/a> of the episode does not include Cuomo\u2019s statement.)<\/p>\n<p>During the hand-off that night, Lemon thanked Cuomo for making the moral distinction between forms of politically motivated mob violence. \u201cOne is built on people, on racial justice, on criminal justice, right?
