Leaks&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-china-50511063\">reviewed<\/a>&nbsp;by BBC Panorama show that the re-education camps are intended to be run as prisons and not as educational facilities, as the CCP routinely claims. One nine-page memo included in the collection of documents, sent in 2017 by then deputy secretary of Xinjiang\u2019s Communist Party, Zhu Hailun, explains how the prisons should be run:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li readability=\"-2\">\n<blockquote readability=\"5\">\n<p>\u201cNever allow escapes\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li readability=\"-2\">\n<blockquote readability=\"5\">\n<p>\u201cIncrease discipline and punishment of behavioural violations\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li readability=\"-2\">\n<blockquote readability=\"5\">\n<p>\u201cPromote repentance and confession\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li readability=\"-2\">\n<blockquote readability=\"5\">\n<p>\u201cMake remedial Mandarin studies the top priority\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li readability=\"-2\">\n<blockquote readability=\"5\">\n<p>\u201cEncourage students to truly transform\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li readability=\"-2\">\n<blockquote readability=\"5\">\n<p>\u201c[Ensure] full video surveillance coverage of dormitories and classrooms free of blind spots\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are things that are known and documented, yet these progressive groups are more interested in making apocalyptic claims about climate change \u2013 claims that have been <a href=\"https:\/\/cei.org\/blog\/wrong-again-50-years-of-failed-eco-pocalyptic-predictions\/\">repeatedly wrong<\/a> for decades.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo combat the climate crisis and build a global economy that works for everyday working people \u2013 in the U.S. and China alike \u2013 we must shift from competition to cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Politico noted, Biden has made China\u2019s human rights abuses central to his foreign policy agenda, though he hasn\u2019t shown any progress or taken any notable steps toward combatting the problem. Progressives, however, are more concerned with climate change than China\u2019s attempted genocide of its Muslim-minority population. From Politico:<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s not the first time progressives railed against the administration\u2019s China approach. In May, prominent left-leaning lawmakers and 60 activist groups&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/05\/19\/china-policies-racism-489688\">called on the president not to turn China into the 21st century\u2019s Soviet Union<\/a>. \u201cWe need to distinguish between justified criticisms of the Chinese government\u2019s human rights record and a Cold War mentality that uses China as a scapegoat for our own domestic problems and demonizes Chinese Americans,\u201d Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) said at the time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And last week, nearly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/quincyinst.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Pelosi-Letter.pdf\">30 organizations pushed Speaker Nancy Pelosi to back a less confrontational version of anti-China legislation<\/a>&nbsp;working its way through Congress.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>These organizations also can\u2019t differentiate between what they claim are human rights abuses in America with what China is doing to Uyghurs. Karen Orenstein, director of the climate and energy program at Friends of The Earth U.S. put China and U.S. on the same level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCooperation with China on climate doesn\u2019t absolve China or the U.S. on human rights,\u201d Orenstein told Politico, as if there were no difference between the two countries.
