\u2013 that ridiculed the killing of George Floyd \u2013 was found not guilty by an internal trial board and will not face discipline. w\/ <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/anblanx?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@anblanx<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBCLA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@nbcla<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hggpncw7Br\">pic.twitter.com\/hggpncw7Br<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Eric Leonard (@LeonardFiles) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeonardFiles\/status\/1412446052691714055?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 6, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Floyd died last year after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes while Floyd repeatedly said, \u201cI can\u2019t breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The accused chose to have the case heard by three civilian panelists rather than two LAPD officers of the rank of captain or higher and one civilian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department respects the disciplinary process and will direct employees to a board of rights where it is believed that termination is the appropriate penalty,\u201d the LAPD said in a statement issued on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>More details from NBC4:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"20\">\n<p><em>The not guilty decision was made by a panel of three hearing officers at a board of rights, which is an internal trial board that meets, nearly always in private with no outside observers, to consider allegations of misconduct leveled against LAPD officers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The officer\u2019s defense attorney did not immediately return messages for comment on the decision.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When the meme first became public the officers\u2019 union, the Los Angeles Police Protective League, said in a statement the image was, \u201cabhorrent,\u201d and said whoever was responsible should be held accountable. The League has not commented on the board of rights decision.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>News of the meme became public in February after an internal email was leaked to Jasmyne Cannick, an influential L.A.-based political strategist and media consultant who has worked with several elected officials, Black Lives Matter, and is well known for scrutinizing the LAPD.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"11.355882352941\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So someone in the LAPD posted a photo of George Floyd on social media with the caption, \u201cyou take my breathe away\u201d in a Valentine format.<\/p>\n<p>Really? Holla. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bclHH8U2Di\">pic.twitter.com\/bclHH8U2Di<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jasmyne Cannick (@Jasmyne) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Jasmyne\/status\/1360748823690153984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 14, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis only became public because an officer in the department reached out to me and gave me the email and asked me to get the word out because they felt the department wasn\u2019t taking it seriously\u2014and I did just that,\u201d Cannick later posted on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>LAPD Chief Moore said the department had launched an internal investigation after an officer reported an inappropriate meme being \u201cpassed around\u201d by colleagues. Moore said the probe reinforced the department\u2019s \u201czero tolerance for anything with racist views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no temperament or patience or allowance for them to remain in this organization,\u201d Moore said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>After identifying a single officer who allegedly shared the image, Moore said he wanted the individual fired but did not have that authority. He said the \u201cmost aggressive act\u201d he could take was sending the case to the Board of Rights to decide whether a punishment was warranted.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Los Angeles Times, Moore said he had been working with the district attorney\u2019s office \u201cto obtain a court order that would force Instagram to provide details about the individuals who operated a since-removed account called \u2018Choir Practice.\u2019\u201d Moore claimed the account posted \u201cracist and prejudicial posting and remarks.\u201d The Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-03-10\/lapd-finds-one-officer-shared-george-floyd-valentine-seeks-info-on-social-media-accounts\">reported<\/a>, \u201cMoore said he was \u2018a bit discouraged\u2019 by a lack of progress in obtaining such an order, which has been difficult in part because the content on the sites, while offensive, is not criminal.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
