Lawrence Douglas Wilder criticized Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe Tuesday for allegedly supporting several state officials who were involved in blackface scandals and a sexual assault allegation.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Virginia <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/02\/06\/mark-herring-virginia-blackface\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Attorney General Mark Herring<\/a> wore blackface in their high school yearbooks, leading the governor to publicly apologize in a 2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorVA\/status\/1091510484468146176?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1091510484468146176%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F2019%2F02%2F01%2Fpolitics%2Fnortham-blackface-photo%2Findex.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>. The same year, two women accused Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of alleged sexual assault, to which the lieutenant governor repeatedly denied, USA Today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2019\/04\/02\/justin-fairfax-accusers-vanessa-tyson-and-meredith-watson-give-details\/3343182002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/06\/18\/northam-blackface-kkk-photo-black-oppression-black-lives-matter-virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Northam Says Blackface, KKK Photo Helped Him Understand Black Oppression)&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wilder claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/06\/terry-mcauliffe-easier-vote-buy-gun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">McAuliffe<\/a>, who served as governor from 2014 to 2018, changed his stance on his push for Northam and Herring to resign from their positions over the photographs, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GovernorWilder\/posts\/2928408407401686\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook post<\/a> Tuesday. McAuliffe currently supports Herring and is seeking Northam\u2019s support during his current run for governor, Wilder said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo years ago, Terry McAuliffe called for all three persons occupying the offices of Governor, Lt. Governor, and Atty. General to resign,\u201d Wilder\u2019s post stated. \u201cToday, McAuliffe is asking people to vote for that A.G. who served as his attorney general, and seeks the continuing support of Northam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McAuliffe was one of several Democrats calling for Northam to resign in November 2019 following the blackface scandal, saying that resignation was \u201cmorally the right thing to do,\u201d Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2019\/02\/03\/terry-mcauliffe-ralph-northam-resign-1144289\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. He also urged Fairfax to step down over the \u201cserious and credible\u201d sexual assault allegations in a 2019 tweet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe allegations against Justin Fairfax are serious and credible. It is clear to me that he can no longer effectively serve the people of Virginia as Lieutenant Governor. I call for his immediate resignation,\u201d the tweet said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.3893129770992\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The allegations against Justin Fairfax are serious and credible. I call for his immediate resignation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Terry McAuliffe (@TerryMcAuliffe) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TerryMcAuliffe\/status\/1093993726257569792?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 8, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_928DFC74-E30F-C22B-FDAB-B1012E4C1F55\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_4\" readability=\"30.029197080292\">McAuliffe said in April that he was \u201chonored\u201d to have Northam\u2019s support after the governor endorsed his campaign, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/04\/08\/politics\/ralph-northam-endorse-terry-mcauliffe\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to CNN<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__read-all\" readability=\"36\">\n<p>\u201cCOVID-19 has brought unprecedented health and economic challenges to Virginia, but we have been incredibly fortunate to have Governor Northam \u2014 a doctor \u2014 leading our recovery and setting us on the path to a stronger future,\u201d McAuliffe reportedly said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wilder also alleged that McAuliffe violated the state\u2019s \u201clong standing precedent\u201d to launch a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/12\/09\/terry-mcauliffe-launches-bid-old-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gubernatorial bid<\/a>, even though he didn\u2019t violate state law, and barred the chances of more qualified candidates \u2014 all of whom were allegedly minorities \u2014 to hold the position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the candidates he opposed except one, were Black, including two women, whom he felt not qualified to be given the chance that he had been given,\u201d the post alleged.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Democratic Virginia Gov.
