But&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/libertyjusticecenter.org\/cases\/menders-v-loudoun-county-school-board\/\">parents are now suing<\/a>&nbsp;to stop a new program they believe crosses constitutional lines.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called \u201cEquity Ambassadors Program\u201d allows students as young as sixth grade to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/school-district-creates-anonymous-form-for-students-to-report-bias\">report on<\/a>&nbsp;their fellow students if they perceive a student\u2019s speech to be offensive or racist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thevirginiastar.com\/2020\/10\/30\/non-colored-students-need-not-apply-loudoun-county-public-schools-initially-barred-white-students-from-equity-ambassador-program\/\">Initially open<\/a>&nbsp;only to students who could check the right racial boxes, the program\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/go.boarddocs.com\/vsba\/loudoun\/Board.nsf\/files\/C3KTHK760E4E\/$file\/SB%20BoardDocs%20Equity%20Workshop%20-%20Promise%2C%20Progress%20and%20the%20Path%20Forward.pdf\">purported goal<\/a>&nbsp;is to \u201camplify the student voice.\u201d But one school leader was honest enough to admit its <a href=\"https:\/\/dhspress.com\/6434\/showcase\/the-ongoing-push-for-equity-in-lcps\/\">real purpose<\/a>: to \u201cidentify microaggressions\u201d among students \u2013 even those arising outside of school or on social media.<\/p>\n<p>This may sound well-intended, but the program will have the exact opposite effect.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than amplifying student voices, equity ambassadors will suppress them. Students will live in fear of their classmates, paranoid of offending their peers. If their comments are reported, students could face a ruined reputation or destroy their chances of attending college.<\/p>\n<p>In short, this program will teach our children nothing but to fear others. It is not education; it is a tool of indoctrination.<\/p>\n<p>This month, the Liberty Justice Center launched a new federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of parents and students in Loudoun to stop this censorship.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, what is happening in suburban Washington is emblematic of a trend growing across the country. So-called \u201cbias incidents\u201d on college campuses spark investigations into students for messages supporting a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lacrossetribune.com\/news\/local\/students-use-uw-l-bias-hate-system-to-report-everything-from-christian-posters-to-offensive\/article_759c0e01-e64e-5aa4-bb29-4e7236d4f5f8.html\">particular political candidate<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lacrossetribune.com\/news\/local\/students-use-uw-l-bias-hate-system-to-report-everything-from-christian-posters-to-offensive\/article_759c0e01-e64e-5aa4-bb29-4e7236d4f5f8.html\">expressing their Christian faith<\/a>. Meanwhile, high school teachers are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aei.org\/education\/democracy-prep-adds-racial-confession-to-graduation-requirements\/\">forcing their students<\/a>&nbsp;to discuss sensitive personal topics, such as race, religion, and family income, in order to establish their \u201cprivilege score.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But last week, the U.S. Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/case-files\/cases\/mahanoy-area-school-district-v-b-l\/\">ruled<\/a> that one Pennsylvania school overstepped its authority by disciplining a student for complaining about her cheerleading coach on Snapchat. The court\u2019s decision was encouraging news, but it should not take federal judges and lawsuits to inject some common sense into our schools.<\/p>\n<p>Every parent should shudder at the prospect of their child living in constant dread that any remark can be anonymously reported and officially investigated. Yet this is where education is headed \u2013 unless parents fight back in courtrooms and classrooms to save our kids from this divisive new orthodoxy.<\/p>\n<p>As Loudon parent Scott Mineo&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/libertyjusticecenter.org\/media\/loudoun-county\/\">told me<\/a>,&nbsp;\u201cOur kids have the right to develop their own opinions, free from indoctrination and school-sanctioned bullying \u2026 This is not education; it is coercion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>The views expressed in this opinion piece are the author\u2019s own and do not necessarily represent those of The Daily Wire.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Daniel Suhr is the managing attorney at Liberty Justice Center and lead counsel for the plaintiffs in Menders v.
