On Thursday, Attorney General Eric Schmitt sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/ago.mo.gov\/home\/news\/2021\/07\/01\/missouri-attorney-general-files-petition-for-writ-of-certiorari-asking-u.s.-supreme-court-to-review-missouri-s-law-prohibiting-abortions-of-unborn-children-with-down-syndrome\">formal petition<\/a> to the U.S. Supreme Court to review a lower court decision against a state abortion law.<\/p>\n<p>The lower courts decision struck down a 2019 law that banned abortion based solely on a prenatal diagnosis such as Down syndrome. Doctors were set to face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of violating the law, which has failed to go into effect.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8In the face of a genocidal crisis, Missouri &amp; at least 11 other States have enacted laws restricting the eugenic abortion of those with disabilities, especially those with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Downsyndrome?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Downsyndrome<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today we\u2019re asking <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SCOTUS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SCOTUS<\/a> to resolve this issue &amp; circuit split without delay. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ProLife?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ProLife<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZT3BtISlq1\">pic.twitter.com\/ZT3BtISlq1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Eric Schmitt (@Eric_Schmitt) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Eric_Schmitt\/status\/1410613734079229963?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 1, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The petition also requested the Supreme Court to review the legal validity of restrictions on abortions at various stages of pregnancy. Schmitt argued his petition in a press release by stating the value of life regardless of any diagnosis. He referenced his son who was diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy son Stephen has shown me the inherent beauty in life, and he brings immense joy and love to his loved ones and those around him.
