And then there is the New York Times best seller list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Knowles\u2019 book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Speechless-Controlling-Words-Minds\/dp\/1684510821\/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&amp;qid=&amp;sr=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Speechless: Controlling Words, Controlling Minds<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is our observation that the books that tend not to make it onto the Times list when you would expect that they would, tend to be books that are not congenial to the New York Times world view,\u201d Spence added. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/11\/16\/liberal-media-suggests-biden-should-take-aggressive-approach-to-censoring-conservative-media\/\">(RELATED: Liberal Media Suggests Biden Should Take Aggressive Approach To Censoring Conservative Media)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Times denied allegations that it had purposefully excluded Knowles\u2019 book<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sales of the book did not meet the standards for inclusion this week,\u201d Danielle Rhoades Ha, vice president of communications for the New York Times Company, told the DCNF Friday. \u201cOur best sellers team will continue to track this title and will rank it, if its sales meet our standards for inclusion for future weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Regnery publisher said that the Times best seller list typically resembles the highest selling books on Bookscan, which tracks retail book sales. Bookscan has been a reliable measure of retail book sales for the past 10 or 15 years, Spence said, adding that it gets more comprehensive each year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty ridiculous,\u201d Spence said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had complaints with the Times over the years, where a book that sold a lot had a more modest ranking in the Times list. But I\u2019m not sure if we\u2019ve ever had one where it was the number one book in Bookscan and yet did not make the New York Times list at all. The sales the Times tracks are \u201cstatistically weighted to represent and accurately reflect all outlets proportionally nationwide,\u201d according to the methodology.<\/p>\n<p>Spence compared the process to selective or political polling in which the Times chooses samples they think are \u201crepresentative\u201d from certain selective bookstores.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGallup doesn\u2019t go out and ask every single person in America how they are going to work, they select samples they think are representative,\u201d Spence said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what the NYT list is. They get sales reports from certain selective bookstores. They keep it a secret though, who they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy they included them but not Michael Knowles\u2019 book is a mystery to me,\u201d the publisher said of the Times\u2019 reference to Hawley and Cruz. \u201cThe fact that they did not censor or discriminate against a conservative book in one case doesn\u2019t mean that they haven\u2019t done it in this case.
