Mike Lee and Amy Klobuchar and Reps. David Cicilline and Ken Buck, urged the FTC to \u201cconsider all available options under the law\u201d when pursuing antitrust action against tech giant Facebook. All four lawmakers hold top positions in congressional antitrust subcommittees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is essential that the Commission take action to deter anticompetitive conduct by digital monopolists by ensuring that they are held liable for antitrust violations to the full extent of the law,\u201d the lawmakers wrote. \u201cCompetition and innovation in America\u2019s digital economy depend on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FTC is expected to file a new complaint against Facebook,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/bipartisan-us-lawmakers-urge-ftc-press-with-facebook-lawsuit-2021-07-02\/\"><u>Reuters<\/u><\/a> reported. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/30\/amazon-federal-trade-commission-the-wall-street-journal-lina-khan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Amazon Wants FTC Chair And Big Tech Critic Lina Khan Recused From Antitrust Investigations Into The Company)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"8.0666666666667\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I\u2019m joining <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenMikeLee?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenMikeLee<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidcicilline?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@davidcicilline<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepKenBuck?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RepKenBuck<\/a> to urge the FTC to do everything possible to pursue its antitrust case against Facebook. The monopoly power of big tech cannot go unchecked. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/W2X9I169AV\">https:\/\/t.co\/W2X9I169AV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Amy Klobuchar (@amyklobuchar) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/amyklobuchar\/status\/1411027665352540161?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 2, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter cited Facebook\u2019s acquisition of Instagram and WhatsApp as examples of anticompetitive practices, along with the tech company\u2019s alleged practice of preventing competitors from interoperating with its software.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers expressed support for supplying the FTC with additional resources to regulate large tech companies, and called attention to antitrust legislation each of the lawmakers had proposed.<\/p>\n<p>A federal judge had <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/28\/judge-dismisses-ftc-anti-trust-complaint-against-facebook\/\"><u>dismissed<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;a December <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/12\/09\/federal-trade-commission-states-file-lawsuit-facebook-antitrust-violations\/\"><u>complaint<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;brought by 46 states and the FTC against Facebook earlier this week, ruling that it was \u201clegally insufficient\u201d and that evidence for the tech company\u2019s status as a monopoly was inadequate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FTC has failed to plead enough facts to plausibly establish a necessary element of all of its Section 2 claims \u2014 namely, that Facebook has monopoly power in the market for Personal Social Networking (PSN) Services,\u201d U.S. District Judge James Boasberg wrote in the <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.224921\/gov.uscourts.dcd.224921.73.0.pdf\"><u>ruling<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The FTC\u2019s new chair, Lina Khan, previously <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/15\/senate-confirms-lina-khan-lead-ftc\/\"><u>advocated<\/u><\/a> for increased regulation of large tech companies, writing a piece entitled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yalelawjournal.org\/note\/amazons-antitrust-paradox\"><u>Amazon\u2019s Antitrust Paradox<\/u><\/a>\u201d while at Yale Law School supporting more muscular regulation of digital markets.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
