Disney has used the alien from \u201cAlien\u201d before, in at least two rides in Walt Disney World and, according to initial reports, was planning to hold on to the franchise, possibly so it could produce future feature-length films and a live-action television series.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bounding Into Comics, that series is now slated to premiere on FX, and \u201cFX chief John Landgraf claimed the series would be the first Alien \u2018story set on Earth&#8217;\u201d (though, as Bounding Into Comics points out, the iconic \u201cAlien v. Predator\u201d movie was set on Earth).<\/p>\n<p>Last December, Disney revealed further details about the series, tweeting that&nbsp;\u201cAlien is currently in development at FX Networks. The first TV series based on the classic film series is helmed by Fargo and Legion\u2019s Noah Hawley.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExpect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Hawley recently sat down with Vanity Fair to flesh out the new \u201cAlien\u201d show \u2014 and it seems there may, as with many Disney properties, be a social justice element to the sci-fi horror series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose are great monster movies, but they\u2019re not just monster movies,\u201d Hawley began. \u201cThey\u2019re about humanity trapped between our primordial, parasitic past and our artificial intelligence future\u2014and they\u2019re both trying to kill us. Here you have human beings and they can\u2019t go forward and they can\u2019t go back. So I find that really interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He then suggests that the earlier movies are stories \u201cabout inequality\u201d because they largely focus on \u201cblue-collar\u201d individuals sent into space by a major corporation. Hawley said he plans to explore the \u201cinequality\u201d that represents and how the disparity of wealth \u201cwe\u2019re struggling with now\u201d inevitably leads to a confrontation with a killer, parasitic alien species.<\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-dynamic=\"true\">\u201cIn mine, you\u2019re also going to see the people who are sending them. So you will see what happens when the inequality we\u2019re struggling with now isn\u2019t resolved,\u201d Hawley told Vanity Fair.&nbsp;\u201cIf we as a society can\u2019t figure out how to prop each other up and spread the wealth, then what\u2019s going to happen to us? There\u2019s that great&nbsp;Sigourney Weaver line to Paul Reiser where she says, \u2018I don\u2019t know which species is worse. At least they don\u2019t f*** each other over for a percentage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-dynamic=\"true\">The new \u201cAlien\u201d live-action television program will, at least, keep its edge, according to reports.
