Get me out,\u201d according to a rescue worker who spoke to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2021\/06\/30\/rescuers-spoke-to-woman-trapped-in-surfside-collapse-but-she-didnt-make-it\/\"><span>Local News 10<\/span><\/a><span> on the condition of anonymity, reported the news agency on Wednesday.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But with a wall of concrete and metal blocking their way, rescuers were unable to reach her in time.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019re trying to do, get this lady out and comfort her,\u201d said the worker, also adding that \u201cshe was asking for help and she was pleading to be taken out of there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe were continuously talking to her \u2026 \u2018Honey, we got you. We\u2019re going to get to you,\u2019\u201d said the source, reports the outlet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Local News 10 also reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p class=\"Text__BaseText-mmkwcw-0 dRMzTN\"><em>Local 10 News also learned of an email sent by a supervisor worried about the effects of this loss on his crews, saying they were \u201cinvolved with an active conversation with the female trapped next to the bed about 10 to 11 hours after the collapse. \u2026 She was aware her parents were also trapped next to her.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__BaseText-mmkwcw-0 dRMzTN\"><em>The email says a fire that broke out forced crews to move back \u201cas we know she passed.\u201d Chiefs on scene reported, \u201cThey saw the wind knocked out of our guys\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>During a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0t4pAOGLGcs\"><span>press conference<\/span><\/a><span> Thursday morning, Miami-Dade Fire Chief Alan Cominsky said that rescuers \u201cheard audible sounds\u201d from underneath the structure. \u201cThey were searching for \u2014 a female voice is what we heard for several hours \u2014 and eventually we didn\u2019t hear her voice anymore. We continued searching,\u201d said Cominsky.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He said everyone has been \u201ctrying to do the best we can in these heroic efforts,\u201d but noted that they were unsuccessful in saving that woman\u2019s life. It\u2019s unclear whether officials have determined the identity of the woman who was trapped on the lower level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Earlier Thursday, rescue teams were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/condo-rescue-efforts-paused-for-safety-concerns-more-than-140-still-missing\">forced to halt search and rescue operations<\/a> out of concern that the rubble and remaining structure were too unstable. The pause, which Cominksy described as \u201ctemporary,\u201d comes a week after the building collapse trapped numerous residents and killed at least 18 people. More than 140 people remain unaccounted for.<\/p>\n<p>Cominsky said on-site structural engineers had several concerns, including movement in a column that could cause damage to other support columns in the garage area if it fell, \u201cslight movement\u201d in the concrete slabs in the \u201cnorth and south corner of the building,\u201d and \u201cmovement in the debris pile\u201d near the south end of the structure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been working in a very very unsafe environment,\u201d said Cominsky, who added that search and rescue teams couldn\u2019t point to one specific \u201ctrigger\u201d for the unstable movement he described in the debris pile.<\/p>\n<p>Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava declined to speculate on the cause of the building\u2019s collapse, noting that the investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Cava, during a roundtable briefing with President Joe Biden, pledged that officials would be \u201cexamining every inch of this catastrophe, with the full might of the federal, state and local government\u201d to figure out what happened.
