Vance\u2019s office would eventually bring charges against him, and he was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/03\/11\/harvey-weinstein-rape-conviction-prison-sentencing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sentenced<\/a> in 2020 to 23 years in prison for rape in the third degree and committing a criminal sexual act in the first degree. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/28\/trump-manhattan-da-cy-vance-charges-tax-returns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Manhattan DA Won\u2019t Charge Donald Trump Personally, Trump Lawyer Claims)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The New York State attorney general\u2019s office also announced at the time they would conduct a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/03\/19\/entertainment\/times-up-cyrus-vance\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">review<\/a> of Vance\u2019s handling of the case.<\/p>\n<p>Vance\u2019s office came under fresh scrutiny when charges of conspiracy and sex trafficking were brought in 2019 against disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein had plead guilty in Florida in 2008 to charges of procuring a person under 18 for prostitution and felony solicitation of prostitution and was thus required to register as a sex offender.<\/p>\n<p>Three years after the plea deal, Vance\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/07\/08\/manhattan-da-cy-vance-epstein-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">argued<\/a> in 2011 on Epstein\u2019s behalf before the New York Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Manhattan DA Jennifer Gaffney argued before a shocked Justice Ruth Pickholz that Epstein should be allowed to downgrade his registered sex offender status from the most-dangerous Level 3 to the lowest possible classification, Level 1 despite the assessment that he was a dangerous sex offender likely to prey on young women again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to tell you, I\u2019m a little overwhelmed because I have never seen a prosecutor\u2019s office do anything like this,\u201d the judge told Gaffney at the time and ultimately rejected the request.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/12\/01\/manhattan-da-sided-with-pedophile-billionaire-after-botching-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Post<\/a> also reported in 2018 that Vance believed Epstein\u2019s lawyers, who claimed in 2011, according to records, that \u201cthere are no real victims here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Epstein would allegedly kill himself in prison before he could face the charges brought against him.<\/p>\n<p>Vance\u2019s office is set to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/01\/allen-weisselberg-trump-org-cfo-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unseal<\/a> indictments on Thursday against Allen Weisselberg, the Chief Financial Officer of the Trump Organization, on tax-related charges. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/01\/donald-trump-jr-new-york-attorney-general-tucker-carlson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018They Are Searching For A Crime\u2019: Donald Trump Jr. Says New York Attorney General Is Persecuting Her Political Enemies)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Weisselberg <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/01\/allen-weisselberg-trump-org-cfo-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">turned<\/a> himself in on Thursday to face the charges, which are the first in a two-year investigation Vance\u2019s office has led against the former president and his company.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"8.7290969899666\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">New \u2013 Trump Organization statement reacting to Allen Weisselberg who just surrendered to the Manhattan DA this morning \u2014 says in part he is being used as a \u201cpawn in a scorched earth attempt to harm the former President. \u201c <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WavgJWhy26\">pic.twitter.com\/WavgJWhy26<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 John Santucci (@Santucci) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Santucci\/status\/1410560504997855233?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 1, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The investigation has been heavily criticized by former President Donald Trump and his allies, who claim that the probe is politically motivated in nature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is nothing more corrupt than an investigation that is in desperate search of a crime.
