Carini is among the eight students taking the public university to court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The lawsuit argues that Indiana University is the only public university in the state with a vaccine mandate. Other schools are simply encouraging students to get the vaccine. The lawsuit also argues that since the COVID-19 vaccines are authorized only for \u201cemergency use,\u201d meaning students must have \u201ccomplete, informed, and voluntary consent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The lawsuit notes that Indiana has placed a state-wide <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/coronavirus\/indiana-bill-approved-to-ban-government-vaccine-passports\/2493837\/\"><span>ban<\/span><\/a><span> on vaccine passports as well.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following the suit, Indiana University updated its coronavirus vaccine mandate wording. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/government\/courts-law\/indiana-university-students-compare-covid-vaccine-mandate-tuskegee-experiment\"><span>original wording<\/span><\/a><span> insisted that students \u201creport all doses\u201d of the vaccine and upload documented proof of vaccination, including a photo of their vaccination card.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The school has since updated the wording and will no longer require proof of vaccination to be uploaded to its system. However, students must \u201cattest that they are vaccinated\u201d via an online report form.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Individuals who are vaccine exempt must wear masks, undergo semi-weekly testing, and undergo quarantine if they\u2019re exposed to the coronavirus.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Indiana University spokesman Chuck Carney told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/indiana-university-students-sue-school-vaccine-requirement-constitutional-rights-violated\"><span>Fox News<\/span><\/a><span> that the university is confident it will win this case.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe university is confident it will prevail in this case. Following the release of the Indiana attorney general\u2019s opinion, our process was revised, with uploading proof of vaccination no longer required,\u201d Carney said. \u201cThe attorney general\u2019s opinion affirmed our right to require the vaccine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Meanwhile, the University of Wisconsin-Madison is taking a different approach to vaccination mandates by refusing to implement them altogether. Students, faculty, and staff will not have to take a COVID-19 test to return to campus and the university will not require social distancing or mask-wearing. The university will not require students to submit weekly tests either.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cConsistent with local and national public health guidance, face masks are no longer required, but are still recommended for unvaccinated individuals,\u201d said Chancellor Rebecca Blank. \u201cUnvaccinated individuals should continue to protect themselves by wearing masks indoors and outdoors where physical distancing isn\u2019t possible.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/uw-madison-refuses-to-mandate-covid-vaccine-ends-social-distancing-mask-mandates\/\"><span>The College Fix<\/span><\/a><span>, the university had previously instituted the \u201cBadger Badge\u201d app, which prevented students from entering buildings if they had not been tested for coronavirus in a given week. The school will no longer use this feature.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A University of Wisconsin professor tweeted that she was upset with the university\u2019s decision to return to normal.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis just in: fall plans for [University of Wisconsin-Madison] include no vaccination requirement, no mask requirement, removal of physical distancing, campus buildings at full capacity, prohibition on asking whether anyone has been vaccinated.
