Sufficient non-congregate housing options exist for anyone who was living at the beach on or before June 25, 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes amidst a feud between Sheriff Villanueva and a group he has labeled \u201cthe architects of failure.\u201d Villanueva says that faction includes Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilman Mike Bonin, L.A.\u2019s top homeless agency, and nonprofit organizations that he claims don\u2019t want law enforcement involved with solving homeless issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/l-a-sheriff-calls-progressives-in-charge-of-l-a-s-homeless-policies-the-architects-of-failure\">L.A. Villanueva says politicians forced him to step in after \u201chandcuffing\u201d the Los Angeles Police Department, which patrols the Venice neighborhood, with lax policies that prevent officers from enforcing the law. But Villanueva\u2019s critics describe his strategy as \u201cpolitical theater in a community where LAPD has primary jurisdiction,\u201d and claim his actions will only prolong the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Since the sheriff vowed to \u201creclaim public space,\u201d Councilman Mike Bonin, whose district includes Venice, launched an outreach effort along the boardwalk in partnership with a nonprofit called St. Joseph\u2019s Center. Bonin <a href=\"https:\/\/11thdistrict.com\/news\/e2h-venice\/\">sent a note<\/a> to constituents on June 22 that said the Sheriff\u2019s Department \u201cis not involved or participating\u201d in the six-week initiative, which formally began on Monday. Bonin says the program will provide permanent housing and services to the homeless.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the sudden everyone has a newfound interest in addressing something they\u2019ve ignored for ten years,\u201d Villanueva said during an Instagram Live broadcast on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Javier Gonz\u00e1lez, an advisor to Villanueva, told The Daily Wire, \u201cBonin and the City only responded to the growing humanitarian crisis on Venice Boardwalk out of fear that the sheriff would get credit for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe truth is, just like ending collaboration with ICE, and enforcing wage theft, the Sheriff is defining the debate and getting things done,\u201d he continued. \u201cPretty rare, and pretty awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Mayor Garcetti toured the Venice Boardwalk and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/homeless-crisis-mayor-eric-garcetti-tours-venice-as-residents-call-for-meaningful-change\">told FOX 11<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m not going to get into a pissing match with the sheriff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not about throwing stones around,\u201d he continued. \u201cI have great respect for anybody, including him, whether it\u2019s a council member or anybody else who wants to get involved.
