TV,\u201d Bounding Into Comics noted.<\/p>\n<p>Allain\u2019s Homegrown Pictures, the outlet added, is on a \u201cmission is to produce \u2018award-winning content from diverse voices that shapes the culture and contributes to a legacy of complex depictions of people of color.\u2019&nbsp;The company also claims they are \u2018dedicated to creating content by and about women and people of color with authentic stories, depictions, and representation..&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jane Austen, like many authors in the pantheon of literature, has fallen into disfavor in recent years, amid concerns that western classics perpetuate ideas of \u201cwhite supremacy\u201d and in the wake of global \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d protests.<\/p>\n<p>Austen, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jane-austen-canceled-author-faces-blm-inspired-historical-interrogation-over-link-to-slavery-love-of-tea\">the Daily Wire reported earlier this year<\/a>, is currently undergoing a \u201cBLM-inspired \u2018historical interrogation\u2019 over her family\u2019s links to the slave trade, and over her love of tea \u2014 a beverage that came to the United Kingdom courtesy of British colonial efforts in India.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStaff at the museum are now re-evaluating Jane Austen\u2019s place in \u2018Regency-era colonialism\u2019 in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests,\u201d The Telegraph reported, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jane-austen-canceled-author-faces-blm-inspired-historical-interrogation-over-link-to-slavery-love-of-tea\">per the Daily Wire<\/a>. \u201cThe Pride and Prejudice author\u2019s links to slavery through her father Rev George Austen, at one time the trustee of an Antigua sugar plantation, will be highlighted with future displays at the property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe museum\u2019s director has stated that Austen\u2019s tea-drinking, a key social ceremony in her era and her novels, also links the writer to the exploitation of the British Empire,\u2019\u2026 as did taking sugar in her tea and wearing cotton, both of which were produced, the museum says, in questionable surroundings,\u201d according to the Telegraph.<\/p>\n<p>Austen\u2019s only connection to the slave trade, however, is through her father, Rev. George Austen, who stood to inherit a plantation and its slaves in a trustee arrangement, though he never did. The elder Austen died years before Jane Austen began publishing her most popular works, regardless.<\/p>\n<p>The Jane Austen Museum has said it is developing displays that put Austen\u2019s work in the context of its historical era.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the CW, Netflix is also producing a \u201cmodern\u201d adaptation of Austen\u2019s \u201cPride and Prejudice,\u201d called \u201cThe Netherfield Girls,\u201d and starring an actress of color in the lead role of \u201cLizzie Bennet,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.townandcountrymag.com\/leisure\/a36620683\/the-netherfield-girls-pride-and-prejudice-adaptation\/\">per Town &amp; Country<\/a>.&nbsp;\u201c\u2018The Netherfield Girls\u2019 is a \u2018fresh and contemporary take\u2019 on \u2018Pride &amp; Prejudice\u2019 inspired by \u2018Easy A\u2019&nbsp;and&nbsp;\u201910 Things I Hate About You.\u2019 Both those movies were, of course, modern adaptations of classic literature (\u2018The Scarlet Letter\u2019&nbsp;and \u2018The Taming of the Shrew\u2019 respectively) and also happen to be two of the best rom-coms of recent years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
