On Monday, the Moscow City Court upheld the American\u2019s nine-year sentence for assaulting a police officer back in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>After the court hearing, U.S. ambassador to Russia John Sullivan said despite the decision, the case was far from over.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI regret that the appellate court has not corrected this gross injustice,\u201d he expressed. \u201cIt does not in any way affect the seriousness with which I and the U.S. government will continue to pursue this matter for Trevor to get him released.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Amb Sullivan: Today marks another sad milestone as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TrevorReed?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TrevorReed<\/a>\u2019s appeal was denied. While being driven to the police station, prosecutors alleged Reed assaulted an officer and caused the police car to swerve dangerously.<\/p>\n<p>Sullivan noted there was \u201cflimsy evidence\u201d in this case and added U.S. officials believe Reed\u2019s trial was a sham.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances,\u201d he explained. \u201cHe\u2019s a remarkable and resilient young man and I won\u2019t say anything, any more than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, a Russian court unjustly denied U.S. Marine veteran Trevor Reed&#8217;s appeal to be released from a Russian prison.<\/p>\n<p>This is a travesty.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden must put pressure on Putin to immediately release Trevor Reed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPLeader\/status\/1409673983151144964?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 29, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Prior to the appeal decision, Republicans pressed Joe Biden to discuss Reed\u2019s case and the case of Paul Whelan with Russian President Vladimir Putin when they met earlier this month. Biden said the issue was discussed, but gave no specifics as to whether the conversation went well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said the families of the detained Americans came up and we discussed it.
