The new narrative from the Biden administration flies in the face of the fact that Democrats were the ones who primarily pushed the extreme \u201cdefund the police\u201d agenda over the last year.<\/p>\n<p>During a press briefing on Monday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki doubled down on the claim made by Biden adviser Cedric Richmond over the weekend when he claimed that Republicans were the ones who defunded the police.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the interaction:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"42\">\n<p><em>PETER DOOCY, FOX NEWS REPORTER: Okay. Something one of the advisors said this weekend \u2014 Cedric Richmond \u2014 he said, \u201cRepublicans defunded the police by not supporting the American Rescue Plan.\u201d&nbsp; But how is it that that is an argument to be made when the President never mentioned needing money for police to stop a crime wave when he was selling the American Rescue Plan?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>JEN PSAKI, WH PRESS SECRETARY: Well, the President did mention that the American Rescue Plan, they\u2019ll \u2014 the state and local funding \u2014 something that was supported by the President, a lot of Democrats who supported and voted for the bill \u2014 could help ensure local cops were kept on the beat in communities across the country. As you know, it didn\u2019t receive a single Republican vote. That funding has been used to keep cops on the beat.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>DOOCY: But at the time, that was sold as: These local police departments might have a pandemic-related budget shortfall \u2014 not, \u201cWe need to keep cops on the beat because there\u2019s crime wave.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>PSAKI:&nbsp; I think that any local department would argue that keeping cops on the beat to keep communities safe when they had to, because of budget shortfalls, fire police is something that helps them address \u2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>DOOCYL Yes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>PSAKI:&nbsp; \u2014 crime in their local communities.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>DOOCY: But those are the local communities.&nbsp; The White House\u2019s argument was: The American Rescue Plan is going to be $1,400 checks.&nbsp; It\u2019s going to be vaccines, vaccinators.&nbsp; We\u2019re \u2014 it\u2019s going to put us on the path to beating the virus, not \u2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>PSAKI:&nbsp; It did those things as well.&nbsp; It was a pretty good bill and piece of legislation.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.670454545455\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Absolutely shameless. Under questioning from Fox&#8217;s Peter Doocy, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki argues it&#8217;s *Republicans* who have been defunding the police and not supporting law enforcement because they didn&#8217;t vote for Biden&#8217;s stimulus boondoggle the American Rescue Plan. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pIwfFkonu1\">pic.twitter.com\/pIwfFkonu1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurtisHouck\/status\/1409557396729614344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 28, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republicans opposed the American Rescue Plan because the U.S. economy was already showing signs of recovering and they argued that the American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion stimulus, was irresponsible and a massive waste of taxpayer money. Inflation has skyrocketed in the months since the Democrats\u2019 stimulus bill was passed.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcconnell.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/pressreleases?ID=108387CD-A0FC-440A-8B0F-D45BAAB3CBD0\">argued<\/a> that another reason that Republicans opposed the bill was because it would \u201cwipe out the budget deficit of New York State, and eliminate a big part of the deficit in San Francisco,\u201d courtesy of the American taxpayer. The argument had been that it was a bailout for poorly managed Democrat-controlled areas.<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicanleader.gov\/mccarthy-floor-speech-on-pelosis-payoff-to-progressives\/\">argued<\/a> the same thing during a speech on the House floor, saying that the bill \u201cgives San Francisco $600 million, essentially wiping out 92 percent of their budget deficit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, even the Biden White House agrees: it is very liberal. They called it the \u2018most progressive piece of legislation in history,\u2019\u201d McCarthy said, noting that the bill was a highly partisan progressive wish list that came at the expense of the American taxpayer. \u201cSo let\u2019s be clear: This isn\u2019t a rescue bill. It isn\u2019t a relief bill. It\u2019s a laundry list of leftwing priorities that predate the pandemic and do not meet the needs of American families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats, on the other hand, have explicitly called for defunding the police and have pushed measures to make it happen.<\/p>\n<p>Police departments across are experiencing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrats-blasted-as-thousands-of-cops-resign-amid-crime-wave-taking-a-toll-on-our-communities\">staffing crisis<\/a> following months of demonization by Democrats who called the police \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-ilhan-omar-defund-minneapolis-police-theyre-cancer-we-dont-want-your-damn-reforms\">cancer<\/a>\u201d and pushed for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrats-push-new-extreme-anti-police-agenda-after-rashida-tlaib-calls-for-no-more-policing\">no more policing<\/a>.\u201d The crisis comes as homicide rates increased 30% last year and have already increased 24% this year, the New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ocasio-cortez-doubles-down-on-defunding-the-police-claims-concerns-over-crime-wave-are-hysteria\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes Magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jemimamcevoy\/2020\/08\/13\/at-least-13-cities-are-defunding-their-police-departments\/?sh=4815049029e3\">reported<\/a> last year on numerous Democrat-controlled cities that took action to defund the police in wake of the far-left riots that gripped the country following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n<p>In just the last week, three Democrat members of Congress have called for defunding the police, including far-left Reps. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-ayanna-pressley-i-support-radical-reimagining-of-policing-not-further-investing-in-carceral-system\">Ayanna Pressley<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ocasio-cortez-doubles-down-on-defunding-the-police-claims-concerns-over-crime-wave-are-hysteria\">Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a> (NY), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-jamaal-bowman-pushes-defunding-police-after-requesting-special-police-protection-at-his-home\">Jamaal Bowman<\/a> (NY).<\/p>\n<p>The GOP quickly <a href=\"https:\/\/gop.com\/democrats-are-defunding-the-police\">responded<\/a> by releasing a list highlighting just a few examples of big name Democrats who they say called for either defunding the police or reallocating police resources over the last year:<\/p>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<p>Psaki\u2019s claim comes as the Democrat-controlled Oakland City Council <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/560393-oakland-to-divert-17m-from-police-budget\">voted<\/a> late last week to cut funds from the police budget.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.1485714285714\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The same day Psaki tells a room full of reporters that it&#8217;s not her party doing this.
