That means the leftist state has now banned state-funded travel to more than one-third of the states in the United Stated, a total of 17 states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalifornia must take action to avoid supporting or financing discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people,\u201d Bonta proclaimed, <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-bonta-add-five-states-travel-restrictions-list-result-wave-new\">adding<\/a>, \u201cMake no mistake: We\u2019re in the midst of an unprecedented wave of bigotry and discrimination in this country \u2014 and the State of California is not going to support it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 California law,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/sites\/all\/files\/agweb\/pdfs\/ab1887\/ab-1887-text.pdf?\">AB 1887<\/a>, stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"27\">\n<p><em>This bill would prohibit a state agency and the Legislature from requiring any of its employees, officers or members to travel to, or approving a request for state-funded or state-sponsored travel to, any state that, after June 26, 2015, has enacted a law that voids or repeals, or has the effect of voiding or repealing, existing state or local protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression or has enacted a law that authorizes or requires discrimination against same-sex couples or their families or on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, as specified, subject to certain exceptions. The bill would require the Attorney General to develop, maintain, and post on his or her Internet Web site a current list of states that, after June 26, 2015, have enacted such a law.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In June 2017, then-California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, whose office maintained a list of qualifying discriminatory laws,&nbsp;banned state-funded travel to Texas, saying that&nbsp;Texas\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.capitol.state.tx.us\/BillLookup\/History.aspx?LegSess=85R&amp;Bill=HB3859\">House Bill 3859<\/a> \u201callows foster care agencies to discriminate against children in foster care and potentially disqualify LGBT families from the state\u2019s foster and adoption system.\u201d&nbsp;Becerra&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2017\/06\/22\/citing-religious-refusal-adoption-rule-california-bans-state-travel-te\/\">pontificated<\/a>, \u201cWhile the California DOJ works to protect the rights of all our people, discriminatory laws in any part of our country send all of us several steps back. That\u2019s why when California said we would not tolerate discrimination against LGBTQ members of our community, we meant it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott\u2019s spokesman John Wittman fired back, \u201cCalifornia may be able to stop their state employees, but they can\u2019t stop all the businesses that are fleeing over taxation and regulation, and relocating to Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton later stated, \u201cBoycotting states based on nothing more than political disagreement breaks down the ability of states to serve as laboratories of democracy while still working together as one nation \u2014 the very thing our Constitution intended to prevent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law has limited exemptions, such as travel necessary to enforce California laws, participate in litigation or protect public health,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/states\/california\/story\/2021\/06\/28\/california-bans-state-funded-travel-to-florida-4-other-red-states-1387264\">Politico<\/a> reported of the California law.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
