It started when Rieleros pitcher Brandon Quintero threw a fastball that hit T<\/span><span>oros catcher Gabriel Gutierrez in the arm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Gutierrez charges the mound, throwing his bat \u2014 thankfully missing \u2014 at <\/span><span>Quintero, before also chucking his helmet at the pitcher. Both dugouts cleared, and everyone \u2014 including coaches \u2014 were involved in the action as haymakers were being thrown left and right.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2021\/06\/24\/mexican-baseball-league-player-toros-de-tijuana-rieleros-brawl\/\">TMZ<\/a>, the two teams have bad blood between them and the game had been getting chippy prior to the incident.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The teams were eventually separated, and three players were ejected from the game. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/sports\/mexican-league-baseball-game-brawl\">Fox News<\/a>, former Major League pitcher Fernando Rodney earned the save as the Toros won the game 5-3.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI hope this does not continue to happen, I think they have something personal against us after the game in which we had 22 runs,\u201d Castro <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/06\/24\/video-mexican-league-player-sets-off-brawl-with-bat-attack\/\">said<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span>in Spanish.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.5845697329377\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\">Leandro Castro \ud83c\udfa4 sobre las dos broncas de esta noche en el Rieleros vs Toros: &#8220;Espero que esto no siga pasando, creo que ellos tienen algo personal contra nosotros despu\u00e9s del juego en la que le hicimos las 22 carreras&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LMB?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#LMB<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Pasi%C3%B3nRielera?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Pasi\u00f3nRielera<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TorosImponentes?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TorosImponentes<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/p9nTkXQguw\">pic.twitter.com\/p9nTkXQguw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Internetv Deportes (@AYMSports) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AYMSports\/status\/1407938563187134464?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 24, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>There have been some epic instances of batters rushing the mound, but the use of the bat and helmet is not very frequent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2017, then Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper threw his helmet at San Francisco Giants pitcher Hunter Strickland as he charged the mound.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Helmet throw of the Year: Bryce Harper\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1_5NLUl1-4A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>The attempted helmet throw wasn\u2019t close, and Harper was roasted on the internet for his weak attempt. The two had history, as Harper had hit two long home runs off of Strickland in 2014, admiring the bombs a little too much for Strickland\u2019s taste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While the Harper fight ended up being a nothing-burger, there is an instance of player using a bat to do serious damage when rushing the mound.<\/p>\n<p>In 1965, a fight between Juan Marichal and Johnny Roseboro got ugly.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/717244-swing-and-a-miss-the-21-biggest-mound-charging-failures-in-mlb-history\">Bleacher Report<\/a>, Dodgers catcher Roseboro was catching that day and almost hit Marichal \u2014 pitching that day for the Giants \u2014in the head with several throws back to the mound.
