The claim appears to originate from a website that has previously published misinformation.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CQcYy7IgXVw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram post<\/a> includes an image that appears to show Fauci being led away by armed men, along with text that reads, \u201cFauci in Custody!\u201d The block of text goes on to allege that Fauci was \u201carrested on June 1st at his home in Washington D.C. by Navy Seals, operating on the direct orders of President Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the post\u2019s claim doesn\u2019t hold up under scrutiny. Fauci has made multiple public appearances since the date he was allegedly arrested. For instance, he\u00a0participated in a June 3 White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2021\/06\/03\/press-briefing-by-white-house-covid-19-response-team-and-public-health-officials-40\/\">press briefing<\/a>. On June 23, he appeared on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs.com\/shows\/cbs_this_morning\/video\/mMQLlpy6zj5NUwd2ZU_DFfsY3Tc8934X\/dr-fauci-on-missing-vaccine-goal-hesitancy-increasing-delta-variant\/\">CBS This Morning<\/a>\u201d and NBC\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gFQ993fcVr4\">Today<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no mention of his supposed arrest on the Department of Justice\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/search.justice.gov\/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&#038;affiliate=justice&#038;sort_by=&#038;query=Anthony+Fauci\">website<\/a> or the Department of Defense\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/search.usa.gov\/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&#038;affiliate=defensegov&#038;sort_by=&#038;query=Anthony+Fauci\">website<\/a>. Such an incident would prompt coverage from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/search?q=anthony+fauci+arrested+navy+seals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">national<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/search-results\/search?q=anthony%20fauci%20arrested%20navy%20seals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/search\/?q=anthony+fauci+arrested+navy+seals#gsc.tab=0&#038;gsc.q=anthony%20fauci%20arrested%20navy%20seals&#038;gsc.page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">organizations<\/a>, yet there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Fauci+arrested&#038;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS820US820&#038;oq=Fauci+arrested&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l3.2098j1j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Fauci+arrested&#038;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS820US820&#038;oq=Fauci+arrested&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l3.2098j1j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">none<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Further adding to the Instagram post\u2019s dubiousness, former President Donald Trump lost his authority over the U.S. military when President Joe Biden was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?c4939582\/joe-biden-sworn-46th-president-united-states&#038;playlist=bcfcfa9f0a458996494da080fc61a2d5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sworn in<\/a> Jan. 20 and, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/founding-docs\/constitution-transcript\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">prescribed<\/a> in the Constitution, became the commander-in-chief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompletely false,\u201d a Department of Defense spokesperson said in an email to Check Your Fact when asked about the post\u2019s claim. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/05\/28\/fact-check-anthony-fauci-all-americans-should-microchipped\/\">(RELATED: Did Dr Anthony Fauci Say All Americans Should Be Microchipped?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found a similar image of Fauci being led away by armed men in a July 2020 satire article, titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theonion.com\/trump-administration-plants-137-000-corpses-in-fauci-s-1844367647\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trump Administration Plants 137,000 Corpses In Fauci\u2019s Bed To Frame Him For Coronavirus Deaths<\/a>,\u201d that was published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theonion.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Onion<\/a>. In the image that appears in the Instagram post, a photo of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apimages.com\/metadata\/Index\/Attorney-General-Guantanamo\/da0e283c95a44ebe85794994aca70b94\/6\/0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guantanamo Bay detention center<\/a> seems to have been added to the background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/darkoutpost.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dark Outpost<\/a>, the website cited in the Instagram post as the source of the claim, has published false information in the past, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/factcheck-mother-teresa-dr-fauci\/fact-check-mother-teresa-is-not-anthony-faucis-mother-idUSL2N2O31MH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>. The website made the inaccurate claim about Fauci being arrested <a href=\"https:\/\/darkoutpost.com\/conspiracies\/dark-outpost-live-06-22-2021-fauci-in-custody\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in a video<\/a> included in a June 22 post.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0viral Instagram post claims Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was arrested June 1 by Navy SEALs.
